Car washing fluid- cheap/expensive does it matter?

Featured Replies

Err... Is it called shampoo??? doesnt sound right!

Anyway..

I thought it was about time i actually bought a large bottle of said fluid as i do wash the car quite regularly but I've always used just a small bottle of halfords own. But is there any noticeable difference between the cheap stuff and say, autoglym car shampoo? Can you say they clean better when your wiping/ scrubbing with a sponge as well or does it mean less effort? Do you add less to a bucket?

Sorry, just wondering. Maybe for polishes and waxes better is more expensive just wondering with regard to something your diluting anyway and then using a sponge to shift more dirt.

Urm.. made sense in my head :o

good point, i think its like most things you pay for the brand!! shampoo would proberly do the same job lol.

i use turtle wax "wash & wax" seems to be ok.

wash & wax is what i use too

i use Top gloss car shampoo

"auto shampoo shampooing lustrant" its far better than normal wash and was leaves it sparkling like fairy does to dishes! i guess! :D

Fairy liquid and some wet n dry for the stubborn bits.

Always seen the Turtle Wax wash n wax stuff but hey, the bottle looks cheap. so never thought about it, as price wise it isnt that different.

always seen 'the top shelf' stuff, like autglym( looks good but couldnt afford it all the time) and wondered is it really that much better!

I just used to use Halfords own or Turtewax until I went mad and bought a bottle of Zymol.... It really is good stuff :).

my comma is 3.99 a bottle for 200 ml tiny bottle! but i couldnt afford the auto glym that day!

Wet and dry? there's a thought... I normally just rub the wet sponge on the driveway for a few seconds to get through the tough stuff...

If you want to try, I have some Autoglym here, you're more than welcome to have some of it?

Could do a mini comparison?

I use Head & Shoulders. It stops the paint flaking.

The stuff i use is cheapest of the cheap.. just plain cold water for the body work. No detergent at all.

Wouldnt want to be washing all that expensive wax off...

Hmmm I'm a detail freak, and personally use either Autoglym or Meguiars product and do think they are much better than some cheaper brands....I've used a fair few....colour coded waxes/polishes leave shed loads of residue....I think its down to how pristine you want your car to look..Lil;)

Morning chaps :) I use SONAX Xtreme ActiveShampoo 2 in 1

I find Brillo pads are much better for the stubborn bits.

I use the Supagard wash which although expensive goes a very long way and does a nice job.

But for the Scimitar I get 5 litre containers of simoniz wash and wax for about

I just use the water that comes out of the tap...

I think most people do that - you'd have a hard time washing it with a bucket full of shampoo, it'd cost a bomb and rinsing it off with shampoo would be a right bitch!

I stop just short of the entrance, give the dude a fiver, he washes it, gives it a good hard leathering off, and i go.

I take it home then and polish it lovingly with mer. It leaves it ever so shiny and smooth, with only a small amount of residue to clean up at the end. Its best to get that off while its soft, if it goes hard, it takes some scrubbing, and on a hot day that can be too much. Applying it with a moist applicator seems to help.

When i've finished, i give it a buff with a soft cloth, and then i put it away, get into my skoda, and go to the IMO car wash down the road which costs

Just use Halfords own car shampoo... its got waxy stuff in and does a great job...... put on autoglim (wax) few weeks ago and will just keep shined up with turtle wax metallic (really good) until i autoglim it again.

i use activ F shampoo as recommended by "Mr wax wizard" and john from swissol.

apparently it is pH neutral so doesnt harm or effect any wax previously on the car. gives a great shine to the car too
