Under seat storage

Featured Replies

Hi all

Waiting for my yeti se to come march/april - in the meantime would like to make two boxes to fit under front seats for out of the way storage - so please could some kind person give me the underseat dimensions so i can make the boxes - cheers - enjoy the site and comments - keep it up.

kind regards John.

Not a good deal in my view. I bought mine for less from my dealer. You will need both parts of the box. The drawer itself and the box that surrounds it. You will also need two spire clips, two self tappers and two machine screws. See the excellent guide in the 'how to'section.

"Real Deal" as in the correct OEM part not "Deal" as in a bargain. Why bother to ruin a new £17K car with some homemade contraption, when the correct part is available.

My point is that mine from the dealer were the 'real deal' and were cheaper than Superskoda. Super skoda shipping can be very expensive..

I agree. But, I was not advocating that is where the OP should purchase them from, just pointing out that OEM parts were available. I just happened to have the Superskoda website open at the time and it was easy just to post their link. I have used Superskoda many times and have not always found their postage to be that expensive, and for the most part the bits I get are not available here in the UK.

Mine is even cheaper - an old, large ice cream plastic container velcroed to the carpet. Works for me :giggle:

Thanks for comments which i appreciate - the thing is this is a motability vehicle so do not wish to spend extra money on it so the box would be sufficient - would appreciate measurements Cheers.

Have you researched the cost savings regarding Motabilty (hire) verses outright purchase (PCP or cash). Qualifying disabled can purchase a Yeti VAT free (I know because we did). Factor in any dealer dicount you can negotiate (10%?), and that could add up to a 30% saving (20% VAt + 10% discount). Even on a 3 year PCP you should be better off than giving up part of your DLA to hire (and never own), and with low depreciation on the Yeti should sell/part ex in 3 years with little depreciation (based on the 30% initial savings). Worth thinking about in the future?

What a super idea you win my award for innovative idea of the year on this forum...i could place all my rope\sheeting in one of the boxes...then the fire extinguisher in the other....

Do really appreciate all your comments but am still waiting for measurements please............

I will measure the space tomorrow. I'm not going out to the garage in the snow!

Quite!

Jarmar.

Please be a bit more patient. People are unlikely to want to go out in the rain and dark to kneel on the ground to get the measurements.

Sorry - will wait in anticipation and thanks for responses.

If my opinion is important ,I would live without.I have an original Skoda factory fitted drawer under the passenger seat that came with the Yeti .It is useless. It is too shallow (is that the right English word to define the depth of a drawer rather than water?)to be good for anything .I emphasize it is only a flimsy drawer and NOT a storage box.I wouldnt even bother.I keep a rag there .It is even too small to fit those yellow synthetic chamois holders.Imagine that!

Thanks :giggle: , reading the links above I see it was used long before I thought of it.

A plastic box can be sourced to more efficiently fill the under seat space; it can't normally be seen, and you can shove your hand in it without faffing about with sliding drawers.

I would think it would be difficult to give definitive measurements, as "we" are unaware of what you want to put in it, what it is going to me made from (ie plywood?), how accessible you want it to be etc.

Given a set of measurements is difficult, as the space is not symmetrical, and might give rise to disappointment when you get your vehicle.

Cheers all - will wait till Yeti comes then source a plastic one which will fit - thanks once again for responses.

A word of caution, be aware of the danger of a freely sliding underseat box(on drivers side) sliding forward under braking and perhaps interferring with controls!

I have had a look at the space and any measurements I give will be misleading.

As others have posted you need to consider what you will use it for and how you will access it?....from the front or rear?...whether you are prepared to sacrifice rear seat foot space, compromise the rear heating vents etc.

The OEM drawers are mounted beneath the the seats and leave space for heating and feet. It is true that that are not very big but they do look very smart and fill the gap under the seat. I do find them useful.

Again others have pointed out the safety aspects of something unsecured potentially moving when braking heavily or worse in an accident situation

I suggest you visit the dealers and have a rummage under the seats. No doubt there will be an Elegance in there where the passenger seat has a drawer as standard. There is room for a drivers one unless you opt for an electric seat.

I keep a couple of hi-viz jackets in the drawer under the passenger seat, along with a small torch and a cameraphone with a small amount of credit on a PAYG SIM (and a battery that seemingly never goes flat so long as the phone is switched off). I'd agree that it's not massively useful as a general storage space but as an easy-to-access place to keep stuff that could be useful in an incident, I think it's quite handy.

My estimate of the drawer's dimensions is that it's roughly 1.5"-2" deep, about 5" front-to-back and about 7"-8" wide. As for it being "flimsy": I'm not sure how strong you'd expect a drawer of those dimensions to be (unless perhaps you were intending to keep spent uranium in it!) but it copes perfectly well with the stuff I keep in it.

I have sourced a plastic box with a clip on lid from a local branch of P******land with a roll of velcro tape £2 the lot.

If anything the Velcro tape is a bit too severe gripping the carpet  ---I have 2 high viz jackets, spare bulb kit, torch and a few other odds and sods and the lot sits out of sight--simples!

Be careful on the Elegance model, as there is a raised box already under the drivers seat which contains the GSM telephone stuff I believe, I would say there is only about45/50mm clearance from the top of the cover to the seat and with it also being plastic everything will slide off it and under your feet on heavy braking As mentioned earlier the passenger seat already has a drawer in place.
