Bluetooth module incorrectly coded?

Featured Replies

Here's the scan from my recently retrofitted Bluetooth module which seems to be a bit of a problem. Any ideas as the fault codes aren't listed on the Ross Tech Wiki (I'm about to email them to see what they suggest).

Hi mate I'm not familiar with that module but Ross Tech says it uses BAP to communicate with the maxidot, and BAP is not supported in a pre fl car. Not sure if that might be the source of the errors??

Having said that I have just checked as I too have a BAP module (5K0 035 730 D) in my pre FL. It doesn't show in the maxidot, but I don't have any similar errors either. My coding is 0200000000010110 if it helps.

Could the second fault be the cause of the first?

Could the second fault be the cause of the first?

Possible, I guess. Would like to know what the incorrect coding is (or whether it is a wiring problem).

That sounds plausible - I don't have Maxidot so wouldn't have noticed any issue. Should have checked the details a little more closely when I bought it...

Thanks for adding that info. I'll check the coding when I go out to my car later; although being a different prefix and an earlier revision, I'm not sure the two sets of coding are transferrable.

Maybe not but a lot of the details on my coding is the same as yours - see below.

very simple

go through the long coding and deactivate the 3 button keypad

change the language to English

  • Author

I looked at the languages and it was set to US English (or something along those lines). I'll look again and also for the 3 button thing.

Thanks Eddie.

  • Author

Eddie_NL (almost) to the rescue agian. Thanks.

Managed to change the language to 'English' (stoopid me didn't spot that you could scroll up on the menu in 'Coding' and find 'English' as well as several others...) and also deactivated the 3-button keypress thingy-ma-jig as per Eddie's instructions.

However, I still get a coding error:

And cannot change the phone book order from 'Last name first' to 'First name first' - it rejects the coding change ('Error out of range', or something along those lines).

It also takes ages (about 20-30 seconds) to scan the telephone module when every other module takes about 5 - 10 seconds - is this normal?

change the 8th digit from 1 to 0

response times from newer BT is slow as vcds has to load up all the protocols with the newer modules

Also only the newest versions allow you to change first or last name order list

  • Author

I'll do that over the weekend. Thanks again.

What does it do though?

When I first tried out the BT module on its own loom, I'm sure I managed to change name order....

Maybe just my imagination!

  • Author

This is Ross Tech's response:

Hello Karl,

That coding doesn't look correct. Please try 0200000100000110 -or-

0A00000100000110 depending on the English preference and let me know if

that resolves both fault codes.

Regards,

Dana

which conflicts with Eddie's suggestion but matches what I have now - time to try both this weekend and see what works...

Similar coding to mine, ignoring the choice of first name/last name first, and the difference in the third byte from the end, which is another option, rather than a necessity (I seem to recall from studying it the other day).

No fault code found.

Will have to see if any faults come back once I've been using it. I hope they don't.

I've read what Eddie said about the first name / last name issue, but why have a feature that cannot be activated / changed using either long coding or the helper?

the reason you can't is due to the version of model, yours is older

later versions J & L and 5k0 can be changed

A bit like CECM versions

Early ones couldn't enable cornering fogs, while later ones could

I see you have the same module as me 5K0, i too struggled to get it coded, current coding is 0210000000010110 seems the same apart from i have the names round the "proper" way.

Bummer it doesnt show on maxidot.

Yep pretty sure there's not an option for maxidot and hfp phones on pre FL....

Did you get any of these errors. Mine all works apart from no BT text and get these errors

No. Didn't have either of those. Sorry.

Have you looked on the Ross Tech Wiki for those fault codes?

I will. I have e-mailed them the codes as I spent 200 quid on the part first to see what they say.

Thanks for your help.

  • 6 months later...

I seem to have a similar problem. After an upgrade from a 3C8 035 730 B to 3C8 035 730 D (for the Wifi function) I had two remaining errors in VCDS:

  1. 13636352 - Control module not coded  (which I just fixed by copying the WorkShopCode from the old module to the new one) and
  2. 9458193 - Control Module for Cellular Telephone
              B1052 14 [009] - Open or Short to Ground
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
                 Freeze Frame:
                        Fault Status: 00000001
                        Fault Priority: 4
                        Fault Frequency: 1

The coding of my new module is now:

Address 77: Telephone (J412) Labels: 3C8-035-730-A.clb

Part No SW: 3C8 035 730 D HW: 3C8 035 730 D
Component: Telefon 022 0946
Revision: -------- Serial number: 35502105049118
Coding: 020000000100000000000101
Shop #:
WSC 33361 790 00999
ASAM Dataset: EV_UHVPremi 002708
ROD: EV_UHVPremi_SE36.rod
VCID: 246935F52F07F53EDFF-8071
?

And the coding of the old module was:

Address 77: Telephone (J412) Labels: 3C8-035-730-A.clb

Part No SW: 3C8 035 730 B HW: 3C8 035 730 B
Component: Telefon 011 0723
Revision: -------- Serial number: 35909603194119

ASAM Dataset: EV_UHVPremi A02003
ROD: EV_UHVPremi_SE36.rod
VCID: 226533ED3513FB0EA27-8077
?

Does anybody know how I can get rid of the second error? I have an original and updated VCDS cable (version 12.12.2 (x64)), if that makes any difference.

Further data:
- Car is a MY2012 Skoda Superb Combi (3T5), with steering wheel controls and an Amundsen+ radio.

- The carkit works flawlessly, RSAP, HFP, Wifi and A2DP, everything is ok.

Some thoughts:

  • When comparing the codings between the old and the new module, I see three bits which are different. But since the car kits are also different, I'm reluctant to simply copy the old coding in the new module. Don't want to break things.
  • VCDS uses a relatively old label file (for the A version of the module). Isn't a newer label file available?

Update:

Solved my problem! I found the solution in this post on Audi-sport.net, where Dana from Ross-Tech gave the right clue: I had to enable the "Operating Unit for Cell Phone Preparation (3-Button Keypad) inactive" bit.

No all fault codes are gone. :sun:

I had a similar issue and eventually worked it out by google search. In my case it was the last two digits that needed changing to enable wifi. I agree the label file is out of date and approached RT about it but they told me they dont have any newer info yet. The latest update to VCDS hasnt helped either.

Hi Adamal

I have a 2014 superb l&k I cannot see how to set up wifi, would you know if it is available on this model?

Thanks John

John

What is your bluetooth module part number please? It should be visible under one of the front seats. Just read the part number off the module. It will have the numbers 035 730 in it but I need the prefix and suffix pls.

Have you already tried to "RTFM"? It contains a whole chapter about Wi-Fi...

Except the manual tells you what you MIGHT have, not what you have got.
