New oil usage figures?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Sorry to bring oil up again but, my vRS has now used 3 litres of oil in 2465 miles, so, I called my dealer to let them know (I've been logging with them every 500 miles) and they said it's normal.

Apparently the youngest mechanic has been on the course and they say it's now 1 litre of oil to 750 miles!

My handbook says 0.5 litres of oil to 1000km (600 miles), quite a difference.

Can anyone confirm if this is true before I call Skoda UK myself tomorrow please?

Many thanks again

  • Seb, I spoke with Mitchells just last week about trade in of our Fabia, even with the oil usage that they dealt with I was offered a respectable 11,250 for a two year old Fabia VRS 2011 with 6,000 mil

  • Just because SKODA/VAG print something deep in a badly translated to English Owners manual does not mean that you have to listen to their cr4p. If they want to make out that their products might cost

They are making it up as they go along.

*They will be able to show you the SKODA/VAG technical advice if there is any truth in this.*

The 2010 Owners manual which is for all models including the vRS says.

'It is normal for the engine to consume oil. The oil consumption may be as much as 0.5 l/1000 km depending on your style of driving and the conditions under which you operate your vehicle.

The oil consumption may be higher than this during the first 5,000 km.'

Just contact SKODA UK.

They know there are faulty engines and that cr4p from garages is ridiculous.

*Get them (the garage) to put that in writing with the Youngest Mechanics name & the service Managers name any story about high oil usage as being acceptable.*

Just for your case with Trading Standards if required in the future,

but SKODA UK should be dealing with it ASAP

If you are now expected to spend on .5 litre of oil, every tank of petrol or so get them to supply the oil now until they arrange getting the vehicle correctly checked by someone trustworthy.

That's BS!!

Just for the record my new and fixed engine uses none :)

1 litre oil every 750 miles that is total crock of poo, that's not right

I have just done 3000 miles and 4 ltrs oil

Blimey, I thought it was just me, mine and I guess yours are the 'new' engines too. What have you done about yours? Any advice for me?

Same here on both points. I'd want to see that in writing, the official new oil usage that is.

That's not far outside the tolerance 4828 km with 4 litres

Which department should I be asking to talk to when I call, will they be able to confirm the figures?

I have a call recorder app on my phone so I can probably download it to my computer and playback the converstaion to them if needed :-)

Just Customer Services... The number is on the forum somewhere... I think it's 08457 745 745 but don't quote me on that... It's from memory...

Explain what's been said and the issues you are having and ask for them to either contact your dealer and tell them what to do or advise you of another dealer you can be referred to... My option was the latter

Should it not be 8000km to 4 litres of oil if the original 0.5 litres to 1000km?

I have been able to email the phone chat to my computer so I'll have it at the ready tomorrow when I call Skoda UK :-)

I think it does say it may use a little more than 500ml per 1000km maybe 750ml but not greater than this, miles how old is the car and mileage ?

  • Author

End of September 2012, 2469 miles. Fair enough, it does say about a little more early on. Mine is using more like 100ml per 100 miles at the moment though over the last 1500 miles

Personally I wouldn't be happy with that but the dealer may try and convince you otherwise, need to get some more miles on it 5k then see usage

Just because SKODA/VAG print something deep in a badly translated to English Owners manual does not mean that you have to listen to their cr4p.

If they want to make out that their products might cost you an additional £4 for oil with every tankful of petrol they need to have dealerships displaying big posters, or Print it in the Brochures beside the MPG figures, because that is not environmentally friendly or matching their emission figures, (Petrol 43 mpg average per tank

& .5 litres oil, that is worse than a 2 stroke.)

They should not having you buy a car and get a 'Owners Manual' before finding out.

This is just delaying tactics from the Dealership or SKODA when there is obviously high oil usage in a virtually new car.

Does anyone know of a vRS that has used oil at that rate for the first 3000 miles then started using less?

(without some action being taken to sort things out)

The first 10 plate Dealers Demo vRS that were sold to customers were rejected in many cases for high oil usage when sold to the public and had engine rebuilds and later cars are getting new engines.

So from 2010 or 2009 with SEAT to 2013,

VAG know there are problems and about time they fess up at the start of a new owner having these problems.

They have been supplying new engine parts for rebuilds, new Breathers as an attempt at a fix and now distributing new engines in greater numbers.

VAG/SKODA have a Quality Control issue and a Customer Care issue that needs more publicity.

WHICH & other Industry awards are just a joke for VAG vehicles reliability.

VW have been at spinning stories about nothing as Reliable as a Golf for years when they know they could be as bad as they actually are. They cover up the warranty issues with them.

Just a thought. With all this oil being burnt up by these engines, is their a chance these could fail the mot emission test?

Used 3 litres or so in 9250 miles - passed the last 2 oil consumption tests with no useage!

Bizarre car, will just have to keep an eye on it every time I full up.

The oil being used is not showing as a problem on an Engine analyzer or actual emissions.

(owners need to be aware of possible Cat damage and get SKODA to replace their CAT when replacing the engine.)

The cars that are now coming up for being 3 years old & due a MOT are mostly fixed because many of those were the first Dealership Demonstrators.

That is why i say that Skoda have had 3 years to sort out this issue with some cars.

They are aware of possible problems from the Launch of the engine in the SEAT.

george

Maybe worth printing the REVO Technical Notice on the VAG engines and taking to the Skoda Dealership.

(possibly leave a few copies sitting about the Dealerships Service Area Waiting room.)

Not sure if this is useful but my new (CTHE engined) vRS now has coming up to 2000 miles on it and is still at 1/2 way point on the dipstick. None added yet.

That probably equals half a litre usage,so OK

Mine has used 1litre in 3500 miles, if it continues at that rate I'll be more than happy, and it may well improve.

I'm not aware of any CTHE engine that has serious oil burning problems?
