New oil usage figures?

Featured Replies

Have a quick look in your service book, should be in the first few pages, I checked mine the other day so I can confirm it's there :-)

Cheers mate, will check that out in the morning and come back with the results of the first oil measurement :)

  • Seb, I spoke with Mitchells just last week about trade in of our Fabia, even with the oil usage that they dealt with I was offered a respectable 11,250 for a two year old Fabia VRS 2011 with 6,000 mil

  • Just because SKODA/VAG print something deep in a badly translated to English Owners manual does not mean that you have to listen to their cr4p. If they want to make out that their products might cost

  • Ring Skoda Customer Services  Tip: be nice and don't scream and shout it's amazing how helpful they are when treated like human beings

Its also on the sticker inside the drivers door.

Picked my car up this morning with the oil breather pipe fitted. Been told I've gotta use this for 3 months before I go back.

Can anyone confirm this is procedure? looks like 3 months worth of buying more oil or should the dealer provide this?!

I didn't buy a drop of oil and my garage gave me a bottle to keep in the car just in case I ever needed it. My car checks were all done by the garage and after the breather fix I had to run it for 500/600 miles I think. If I was you I'd get the garage to take some ownership over this for you as oil is so expensive and you shouldn't be doing the checking.

Thanks Vicky.

I'm gonna give them a call later today as they have now officially acknowledged I have a major problem so they need to do something, or provide me with oil until they solve it!

Good luck, I'd hate for anyone to be in my position and have to give up such a great car. If you can I'd do everything through the local dealer and not SUK as the local dealer tend to be much more helpful and polite. Mine have been fantastic so maybe I am biased. SUK appear to be inconsistent as to who they admit there is a problem to but you only have to look at this website to see there is a problem with a lot some of them. Good luck.

I e-mailed Skoda Australia if they provide free top-up oil as I've used 2L in 7000km, and I hadn't been offered any at the time of purchase.

Even though that usage is within the official spec, their reply was that I should get the car tested... so it's booked in for a test on 12/3. I don't know if I hope they change the breather pipe or whatever the patch-fix of the month is.

To be honest, although I'd rather it used less oil, I'm not that concerned about it - so long as it's not a sign of a brewing long-term problem. I love the car and would hate the Skoda "experiment"* to backfire on me.

* I've always had Fords prior to this, and the Fiesta ST was still only a future "possibility" at the time of purchase. Skoda remains very much a niche vehicle in Australia at this point, and I've had plenty of people questioning the choice - I'm hoping not to look like an idiot.

Looking it in buying a fabia VRS but this oil consumption issue is a bit of worrie, has there been any oil consumption issues with the later CTHE engines on here? Thanks.

Sad day for us as we could not put up with the lack of confidence in this car any more, it was both a family car and workhorse and needed to be used every day, so getting to the garage every week or so became difficult, therefore it has now gone.

It was consuming 0.93l of oil per 1000m, confirmed by the skoda oil weight test, mileage was 17k, the oil breather modification didnt work and the next step was new engine/bottom end.

So if anyone is interested in an unused sunglasses holder in black... let me know!

Sounds like it's using the same as mine is. I'll be taking mine back to the dealer once I have a free day. Getting fed up of topping up the oil every tankful. If I had known it was this bad I'd have looked at getting a FD3S

Subtle,

Did you give it back to the garage or sell it? I'm awaiting my new car any day now as I've had the same problems by the sounds of it.

Spv,

It seems very hit and miss with this car as some have had ones that are ok. I think the cure seems to be drive it like you've stolen it, however that drinks the fuel! I had the new engine and it made no difference, but don't let me put you off. I'd do some extensive research first.

I have an old (2010) cave engine, and it doesn't use a drop (at all)

as far as I know there have been no oil issues at all with the new cthe engine.

Hi Vicky, I'm afraid we ended up trading it, the dealer insulted us with a price to buy it back. Happy to sell us a lemon but not buy one back it seems!

That's a shame. I've been very lucky with what I've got arriving.... Not so lucky with my vrs though which I'm devastated about. Having owned the old vrs model I thought this one would be better.

So what you getting!!??

A fabia monte Carlo which looks the part just not the same to drive.

MilgeS, what is the latest on your car please, ie, what are SKODA saying ?

george

Just a quick update, I've cancelled my consumption test that was due Wednesday this week because the dealership ha lost the Skoda franchise and I don't feel that they will give it the respect it deserves if they know they aren't going to be benefiting from Skoda in the future. I have called the new dealer and will arrange for the test to be carried out once they are full the Skoda franchise, should only be a few more weeks, at least this way they will do the test and have the results should further work need doing, not have to try to get the information from the previous dealer, or even have to carry out another test..

Hopefully I've made the right decision.

Thanks for that...Lovely car, shame a few drinking oil is putting me off really. I guess so long as your topping it up that should avoid any real damage. Had a mate with an RX8 and they drink oil too. Bugger...new car decisions are tough.

It didn't initially put me off until I worked out the cost of the oil over the length of time I was planning to keep the car (circa £3000) and on top of fuel it made it silly. It is also an inconvenience to keep checking the oil or getting someone else to do it. (the garage did all my checks for me over the past year and I was going to the dealer every 500 miles so I gave up a lot of lunch breaks). I also didn't want to be lumbered with a car in years to come I couldn't sell because it was common knowledge about this car being an oil guzzler so for once in my life I put my sensible head on and decided to part with it. Having said all the above it really is a lovely car and I am going to miss it deeply.

the people with oil consumption issues do they drive the car fairly hard? or is that not a factor

'MilgeS' :

Mines Sept 2012 with the CTHE code and has used 3 litres in 2500 miles so, I'd say no it's not fixed, maybe the majority are now good though as I seem to be the only one here with the new code and oil problems.

Added another 500ml this morning, 2803 miles, 3.5 litres of oil.

Are you topping up when the light comes on? I'm not checking mine that regularly and relying on the light (which some say is foolish). I haven't put any oil in in 3000 miles, hopefully there is some left in there (2010 CAVE engine).

When the light comes on, or have you never had it come on,

how much oil do you need to put in until you get the correct amount of oil into your engine.?

Correct level into 'area A' on the stick when checked at normal running temperature.

&

what temperature does your oil show at when at motorway speeds.?
