New Laurence & Kermit Yeti ordered.

Featured Replies

Ah... but does it also have 4x4? :p

Oh yes (in my best Churchill voice)

As Yeti_man says, a remapped CR140 will go to 170 with ease. And loads more torque.

Insurance extra 10% on premium.

Larger brakes fitted from the 170 as well.

No I didn't - I've never seen a diesel engine with a dry DSG box, only the 6 speed wet box. I already own an example of an engine that produces more than 140bhp with a DSG box - my Fabia vRS. This, however, is a petrol engine that produces 180bhp and has the 7 speed DSG.

The dry 7 speed has a lower torque rating than the wet 6 speed box which is why only the petrol engines seem to get the dry 7 speed version.

Just had a look on VW's website - I stand corrected. The Golf GTD is offered with a 170bhp TDI with 6 speed DSG although this will be the 6 speed wet type. As I say, I've never seen a diesel engine with the 7 speed dry box in any output variant.

This still begs the question then, why can't Skoda at least offer the 170bhp TDI with the 6 speed DSG box as VW do?

The Tiguan is available with the petrol 210ps engine and DSG 7 speed wet clutch as is the 177ps diesel.

The DSG is a great gearbox. I won't go back to a manual, and offloading using the DSG is great. All the drivers of manual cars I have been out offroading with, manage to stall at some point. The DSG just chugs on.

Most serious offroaders appear to be going down the auto route these days from what I am told.

Yes. He means its a 140 DSG with a remap so not an actual 170. ;-)

I knew that...!

I really should stop obsessing about the power output and remember that it's going to be my wife's car who probably can't tell the difference anyway!
