Egr cleaning on 1.9bxe engine

Featured Replies

Hi all, apologies if this as been done before, but i'm going to clean (maybe delete) the egr on my 1.9 105 bxe 4x4. Everything i can see on searches on here is for the 2.0 engine, can someone tell me if the 1.9 is any different before i attempt this?

Thanks in advance!

I fancy this also

I've got the BXE engine too. The only thing I can see as being difficult is its in a more tighter spot at the back of engine. I believe the 2.0 is at the front?

Access to the bolts could be a problem especially one thats underneath the egr. The rest seems to look straight forward.

I've read that Carb cleaner is the best way to clean them if they're not completely gunked up.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks chaps, i'm happy cleaning it just could with a picture of the location to know what i'm doing....

Standing looking at the engine with the cover off it the EGR is at the back on the left hand side above the brake fluid reservoir. It has the rubber intercooler pipe coming out of it at 90 degrees.

Hope this helps:)

Gents I'm about to tackle this. It looks like a pig to get to. The top two bolts obviously simple but I can't figure out how to get to the ones underneath!

How do I post pictures up?

Well I figured out how to get the anti shudder valve off. I now can't get the exhaust I pipe off the bottom of the egr valve. Those Allen bolts are seriously tight and I can't get a decent ratchet in there due to space.

Such a simple job, but what a ball ache.

All done.

When I get more time I'm going to tackle the manifold.

I would upload pics but don't have the freedom membership / I can't see how to do it on my ipad.

Probably placebo but it feels like I've got a horse or 2 back :-)

I found i couldnt get my rachet in to lossen the bottom bolts so i stuck my phone down took a quick video to have a look at them and with a normal set of allen keys i managed the bottom bolts off no problem.

I did this job on my old PD130 ASZ which was a similar job.

I had to use a normal allen key on the bottom bolt. I think I also used a little spanner on the allen key to get more leverage on it.

Just luckily on the 1.9 it's at the top of the engine and not the bottom.
