Fuel consumption on 1.2 petrol

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a eight month old yeti. Returning around 35mpg on average trip 2 and getting 32-36 on trip 1. These figures have gone down 3mpg on trip 2 and struggling to get to 40 mpg on a long run. I drive reasonably and do not use air con very much.

The consumption was much better some months ago, it does seem to be back to where it was when i first received the car, when I thought the consumption just reflected the running in period.

Any thoughts?

Thanks...

I ran a 1.2 TSI manual Yeti for two years and averaged over 40 mpg during that period. MPG was very sensitive to how it was driven but I didn't have to try too hard to get mid 40's on a gentle motorway run.

Mine's a DSG but I'll offer my observations. The reading on my 'Average |trip 2" is a fraction over 36. On 1 it varies more, obviously, but usually doesn't drop for any length of time below about 25 but is never, ever, over 40. My brim to brim calculations are usually a shade under the 'Trip 2' figure quoted above....so 35 - 36 mpg is what I would say it does most of the time. Motorway trips don't improve the figures to a huge degree either. Most journeys are a gently driven mix of town and country with occasional fairly short trips of 10 miles or so. Never thrashed and never over 80 mph on open roads.

I ran a 1.2 TSi SE (from new) for 10K miles / 1 year. It averaged low 30's MPG and the best I ever saw was around 40 mpg (worst was mid 20's). As previously stated I found the car more economical at lower speeds and found anything over 65-70 mph made a huge difference to the MPG.

I complained to my supplying dealer regarding the low MPG and they found a faulty cam position sensor. Once this was replaced the average MPG improved somewhat, although never exceeded 40 mpg on a regular basis.

Fuel consumption always increases in winter. When spring comes back, I bet those figures go back to normal. Always the same when you buy a new car in Spring/Summer when winter comes you think that there is something wrong with the car.

Another thought, I have found that I need to check the tyre pressures on Yeti more frequently than any other car I have owned. Why that is, I really dont know. Anyway, given the un-aerodynamic shape of the Yeti, keeping all tyres at the correct pressure (for me) is essential for maintaining good MPG ect.

My average (trip 2) is currently at 37MPG, my commute is mainly A-road and I've seen 49MPG on there before (at best).

My 1.2 Tsi with DSG gearbox is averaging 40.8 MPG on a true brimfull-to-brimfull system over 8,000 miles. Driving is mix of rural, urban and some motorway journeys. I also noticed a slight drop in MPG in winter but only 1-2 MPG.

Certainly how you drive makes a difference but that is the same with any car/engine combination. Check Honest John website to see what other Yeti 1.2's are doing.

1.2 Tsi with DSG gearbox - 30 Months old with 10K miles - Shell V Power - Full to Full figures:

  1. Averaging 41 / 42 MPG - (Mixed driving: A & B roads with some Motorway and plenty of hills)
  2. Worst = 37.99 MPG
  3. Best = 46.58

Have had the MFD showing 50+ on occasions.

Without wanting to start the debate over fuels again. I find that using Shell V Power has a positive effect on the car and its MPG; the engine runs a little sweeter and I get an increase of around 2 MPG.

I manage 44mpg on country roads but the final tank average drops to 37mpg because of some busy city driving in-between

With a 1.2 DSG I get average around 39 with a mix of 20 mile round trips and 150 round trips mostly A/B, dual carraigeway roads, with about 20% on motorways of 10k annual use.

Noticed if a bit more footdown or over 60m/hr driving rapidly comes down to 35mpg.

Considering got about 40 for a 1.4 Jazz (being a lot lighter) quite happy with results.

Front tyres look good for 26K and rears 35k+ whereas Jazz was 16k front 28k rears, again Yeti

good for relatively heavy car.

my 1.2 consmuption should be shown below, I think if you click on it you can get detail fill up by fill up
