Real washer jet

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Rear washer yet blocked... well not as such more the little plastic nozel on the end, ive removed it and cleaned it with no probs (boiling water in a cup drop it in and stir... sorted it out in 2 secs), but feck me alot of ****e came out of it!?

I assume this is a desighn flaw as it seems to be in the purfect location to be a road dirt trap, my question is do i just acsept ill be cleaning the nozzels every so often ( probably do it when i clean the car) or have any of you found a magic war of protecting it?

Thanks

Craig

On my pre FL Octy Hatch the rear washer jet spent more time blocked than not. On my current FL hatch the rear jet has never blocked in 27k miles. Maybe different aerodynamics from the revised rear bumper? Who knows!!

A replacement jet is only a few pence. Buy a couple of spares so you can switch 'em and wash 'em out at your leisure - they always block at the worst possible time!!

I do not use my rear washers much. Mostly just the wiper to clear rain when stood still . Cleared mine twice this year- I keep a bit of copper wire in the car to clear the nozzle- which is very easy to remove after flipping up the outer cover (less easy).

lol yeah i see they cost pence, just looked back throught the history and its had a new one fitted on every service, ill buy a couple spares.

thanks

Where's the cheepest place to but these ?

They are so quick and easy to clean it isn't worth buying new ones, which are going to block up anyway. A lot seems to depend on your screenwash - I had little or no trouble with VAG screenwash, but with others I just whip the nozzle off once a weekend, run a #65 drill bit through the two holes, wash out the grot, and job done. Takes all of 3 minutes.

Sorry, I can't agree. I tried and tried to unblock the old one on mine, but could not get everything out. What did come out was black gritty stuff, nothing to do with what washer fluid I use as I always use proper screen screen wash and have done in the five years I've had the car, as I should do. Even just after a soak in boiling water and a good blow out, the difference when I changed it for a new one was amazing.

What did you use to clear the holes? I use a model hobby drill that is a very close fit to the holes and afterwards they work like new too. I don't think there can be any muck of any sort left inside them at that point.

I don't think they actually need doing every week but otherwise when they do block up you might not be in a position to clean them just then.

If buying a new nozzle instead, how often would you do that? At what age (of nozzle) do you feel they become "uncleanable" ?

Mike i soaked mine for a few hours and the grit and dirt blew out, maybe u got very unlucky?

Hi all. Im new here :)

My rear windows washer is actually gone. I think it popped back into the brakelight cover. Can someone please tell me how i remove the cover/panel so I can check if its just loose or if I need a new washer.

The washer engine works as there is fluid coming out of the brakelight cover when i use the backwasher. So I know that it works.

All help is appreciated.

Found out what happened here. Guess i must have knocked the washer jet back into the brakelight cover when scraping ice off the rear window.

I can never set the aim to hit the window correct!

Welcome to Briskoda.

As yours is the estate you are lucky in that the estate washer jet doesn't appear to suffer the same fate as those on the hatch.

Well done for fixing it, having to remove the inner trim to gain access to the back of the brake light is a real nightmare.

The problem I have is that I rarely use the washer function. The wiper itself gets regular use but not the washer.

Every time I come to actually wanting to use it it's always blocked. Pulling it off and soaking it overnight / clearing out the debris works immediately after I replace the jet but I'll guarantee that the next time I come to use it it'll be blocked again.

I gave up the other week and paid the £7 for a new one off eBay. Let's hope this one lasts a little longer.

Now, getting it aimed correctly through the two holes on the cap deserves another thread to itself :giggle:
