My 2010 car has been back to the dealer several times to get them to stop what seems to be a bass speaker making all sorts of different non-musical noises around the driver's door. Some of the noises sound like a blown speaker, some like the speaker is loose in the door, and some sound like the door trim is loose. It's intermittent and it's spoiling my enjoyment of the car and of my music, even with the volume and bass turned down.

Is there a fix I should quote to the dealer?

Dave. I have a 09 plate car and had the speaker upgrade cos I love my sounds. Like you a have an awful rattle / blown speaker sound on deep base notes. The other day Michael Jacksons Black or White was on the radio and I had to change station there was so much vibration. It has been with the dealer a couple of times now (and so has a friends who has had the same issue) but situation normal. It seems to me that the speaker fixings need rubber grommets otherwise you have plastic mounted to metal which is bound to vibrate. Long and short of it is that you have to live with it.

Or get it sorted by removing the door card and adding some dynomat in there - specifically between the speaker driver and the inner door skin.

The holes that the factory make in the speaker's grill are too small, and the air is choked behind it, so on strong bass levels that causes the door trim to vibrate, the solution is to enlarge the holes one by one. Overall it seems the fault is a design fault or a series of design faults plus a failure to include things like Dynomat. The more evidence I can get of that from as many people as possible here will be appreciated as my next step will be to ask the dealer to have all the speakers sorted out by a local audio specialist.

Hi folks, I have a 10 plate elegance with the upgraded sound system too. I have exactly the same problem and had assumed it was a broken speaker cone. Mine is in the dealers on 14/03 for them to look at it. I will report back afterwards to see what they say! By the sounds of things this is a design issue and it is not fit for purpose. I will be looking for them to resolve regardless and would also appreciate it if others can keep posting their experiences here to prove that it is a widespread issue!

Hi peanut18. I've chatted with someone in VW service in the UK who thinks this is a mixture of a failed speaker and broken door clips from earlier attempts at repairs.

I love your "not fit for purpose" phrase and I will be using the same if they don't get mine sorted. Indeed I may be using it to claim the whole car was not of merchantable quality as I've been asking them to sort this issue since the car was new.

More evidence from more people will be appreciated please.
