Fabia vRS replicas

Featured Replies

Seen a few very tidy looking examples on the site of vRS replicas. What I don't understand is people slagging the owner off for putting on OEM vRS badges. Sure, it's not a genuine vRS but so what? If you're going to build a replica, you'd want it to look as close as possible to the original, including badges. Why tell people to take off what is, after all, only a badge? The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make a good example of a Fabia and made them look as close as possible to the genuine article.

They may have various reasons such as age, insurance, hatred of diesel cost etc etc for not buying a genuine one.

Come on, it's only a badge. Give 'em a break.

Each to their own but when a non VRS has VRS badges it is not a VRS and never will be so why bother!

It's like an Impreza sport owner sticking a bonnet scoop on their car to look like a Turbo! It's still a dog slow Impreza but with added drag!

I don't see the harm in replicas to be honest, if they're done properly then what's the harm? It's only the same as making ours look good apart from they've not got the power to back them up. Like ljp01 said it's probably because of insurance so fair play to them

.....but the question is - are all these reps insured correctly?

Surely by the time you've spent all the money on the mods and insured the car correctly, you may as well of bought a proper one?

I never declare any mods so I'm not one to comment on that.

So technically you have no insurance!

It's on a traders policy so don't need to but in the past I never have. They charge the earth for insurance as it is so I refuse to pay more. They should target the people who have points for drink driving etc instead of just ripping everyone off

depends how cheaply you can source the interior, bumpers etc. A few hundred Vs Insurance for an 18 year old on a real vRS which would be what? A few grand I'd guess.

I must be wired different - I couldn't waste a load of money on building a wannabe. If I want a particular car I will save to buy and run the real thing or re set my sights to a realistic goal!

Don't get me wrong I'd sooner have the real thing and have never had a replica but they don't bother me. Some look really nice

My personal opinion is, it's your car, you do to it what you want. There will always be people that don't like it but as long as you're happy with it, so what. I'm sure people don't like my 'Animal' stickers or all the Briskoda ones i have, i don't care as it's my car.

Well said that's what I was getting at. When I put red wheels on my st170 everyone started crying about it but it's each to there own, I liked it but most didn't.

+1 As long as you don't put a bonnet bra on it or ridiculous HIDs, do what you want. I've changed my tune as I get older I used to hate some of the mods done :D

Maybe not quite as bad or sad as a Ferrari replica, or sticking GTI badges on a Golf, or M3 badges on your 2.0 BMW - but not far off.

Probably because most people are naive and I'm sure many don't appreciate what the Fabia vRS is or how good it is to drive anyway

At the end of the day you will know its not the car you are pretending it to be...what is the point ? Up to but not including the badge is fine, past that is still just sad. Each to their own though.

It would be a bit like asking my wife to put a Scarlett Johanssen mask on before going to bed.....naive and a bit vain TBH

oh come on imitation, the greatest form of flattery and all that

We all like to tinker and make things better, so parts off the top of a range are often where you would aim

Remember under 25's living in cities often pay £2k+ for a 1.2 R reg clio

Live and let live !

If that's the case why do people put the lcr splitter on, go buy a Leon cupra r. And for those with porsche wheels, go buy a porsche. Modifying is about making a car look better and perform better and I'd sooner someone put a vrs kit and wheels on than some fibreglass Jap style kit and bling wheels that will look shocking!

And also these reps are probably 1st/2nd cars. Wonder if your 1st cars looked as good as a decent vrs rep I know mine didn't

i dont see whats wrong with reps either tbh. If some one goes to the trouble of making their car in to a rep at least they will look after it and less likely to bash it in to my fabia. My mate has just done a similar thing with a corsa and vxr body and at the end of the day it looks good , he loves it and doesnt cost the earth to run. if the owners happy then i dont see the problem

I'm all for making things look better with wheels etc but it's the whole rep thing I feel is pointless!

Each to their own as long as they are legal ;)

I'm not ashamed to say I have a GT badge on the back of my tdi Polo. It's not got a GT engine (same as a VRS) But I like the look of the badge, it was either that, debadge it (no) or leave the huge '1.9 TDI' badge there. I suppose it's been mapped to similar power, a standard GT/fabia VRS would probably still have me in a race though

Luckily the GT is incredibly easy to rep, in true VW style it's as bland as any other! :giggle:

Well u could say mine is a vrs "rep"...

But end of the day i wanted an estate.. i didnt want a vrs.. but the standard bumpers look crap.. + my grill was cracked + i got a facelift one off the vrs i got my interior from.. so came with the badge.. iv thought about taking it off but tbh mine is specced higher than a vrs in 99% of the car including the engine so why should i lol ;)

I have now had the green "V" of the badge painted black so shouldnt stand out as much :)

and a lovely example yours is. Skoda learnt their lesson come MkII time and made a Kombi vRS, which IIRC, is 1Mph faster than the hatch  Shame it's a petrol only jobby though :(

You sound like your talking about a specific post or thread maybe? The only time I remember anyone getting stick is when a lad put them on his boggo 1.4 Fabia, he got a bit, but it did look silly. Personally I dont have a issue with "replicas" but I am guessing you haven't had a insurance quote for a 18 year old recently ljp01? Even a stock 1.2 would be well clear of a grand maybe 2 so as soon as you do anything to it you'll be either dropped by the insurance company or paying stupid amounts. I dont think there would be much difference cost wise between a look-a-like and the real thing by the time you've worked it all out. I love Matt's estate, but it isnt a vRS replica is it? Aside from the bumpers it doesnt look like a vRS really. I wouldn't make a replica, but taking styling cues, bumpers and stuff from sporty models and adding your own twist or style to it I would do, I'd just stop short of putting the badge on. I did consider putting a SDI badge on the Fabia just after I hybrid it, but thought better of it,

As far as people saying Porsche wheels/leon cupra splitters, thats not quite the same as sticking a S3/vrs/cupra r badge on your 1.4. :D

Ill share my view.

My Fabia vRS is my 2nd car, my first car was a 206 1.4 8v GLX. I spent a lot of time and money upgrading various parts, mainly from the 206 GTi. Front & rear bumpers, headlights, leather interior etc...

But I would never have put a GTi/GT badge on it. I done things to make it look better, not to make it into a GTi/GT rep. Also apart from a Green Cotton panel filter I never modified it for performance.

So yea some can look good and if you want to do it so you have a better looking car for yourself, but please don't put incorrect badges on it.

I'm making my S3 into an A3 replica.

I really am too, I'm not taking the pee...

My replacement mirror covers are in the spray shop as we speak.

The car goes in to my indy for MOT next week, when it does the alloy

effect 'S' mirror covers are coming off in favour of the colour matched variety.

Already debadged front and rear, changing the S3 caliper badges for plain black

ones (from the 3.2 variant) when the brakes need doing next.

Was just trawling ebay for an oem A3 badge for the tailgate.
