Engine bay and bonnet underside

Featured Replies

On full examination of my new Yeti 1.2se today at home I found the engine bay and underside of the bonnet to be painted in for want of a better description undercoat grey when the exterior of the car is Cappucino.

The dealer says one or two in all models are coming through like this as its a new process after trouble on some Octavias with rust.

Not really happy with this reply so contacted SUK still waiting comeback, suppose it is late Friday afternoon.

Anyone who has recently taken delivery had the same thing or are yours the same colour right the way through?

Would like to know as it will give me some ammunition to go back to SUK with

not being funny but id rather have proper protection on a part not normally seen than have it the same external colour and risk premature ageing.

my 2012 aqua blue is not the same colour inside the bonnet either. I just went out and checked mine to be sure!!

and I hadn't even noticed till your post!!

dont let such a minor thing spoil your enjoyment of a new car

Agree entirely ,its just comforting to know that someone else has the same thing.

Many thanks for answering

Same here on ours Cappucino received on April 2012.

Never bothered me, although It looked somewhat weird to me at first. Never asked the dealer why...

I think it's due to production cutting costs reason.

What's the point having metallic paint "under the hood" ?

My December 2012 model also has the dark grey/black colour in the engine and under bonnet area. I can't see any disadvantage to it as it is well covered in paint. I assume Skoda must have a reason as to why they do this, but I would not let it worry you in any way

Thanks for your answers, i'm not overly concerned but I do find it strange as our 2010 yeti was the same colour right the way through and I have not heard of anyone else wth matching details.

I do find the dealers response rather lame.

Perhaps I'm being a bit unfair to them.

Does it still have the sound proofing under the bonnet on a diesel. My 2010 is red and is painted under the bonnet and has sound proofing hope my new one does to.

Our Yeti is white under the bonnet as with the rest of the car, although some areas are more matt than gloss. Our Fabia, also in white, is much more finished off paint wise under the bonnet, with all areas having a good coat of gloss. However underneath around the spare wheel area, there's no paint to be seen at all other than the pre mastic metal primer; the mastic applied to the panel weld lines being void of a paint covering :wonder: Applied some Comma wax oil where I can to add my own protection in these areas of cost cutting.

Yes mine has the sound proofing which was a bit of a suprise not only to me but the dealers as well. I was advised this item seems to be hit and miss, some have and some do not, and as I mentioned on one of my earlier comments on another post. There seems to be more sound proofing under the carpets as well. I am not sure if this is also hiit and miss

The colour of my engine bay is more dirt than anything else.

I believe it was white when I took delivery over 2 years ago.

Hello

Just for the record, our SE+ 140 diesel delivered yesterday (built Week 03) has the dark grey/almost black finish under bonnet and in engine compartment (bodywork malachite green outside) and the sound proofing. Hope this info helps.

Diesel's have the under bonnet insulation, Petrol's don't. Unless they have changed policy.

Probably penny pinching.

You can buy it complete with clips....easy to fit for around £28..The Part No is 5L0 863 831.

My engine bay is black, the rest of the car is black magic just missing the gold affect. but its under the bonnet and hidden so no problem (sorry if any gamma or selling is wrong just consumed 1/2 a bottle of good rum with SWMBO friends were on vodka so the empty bottle is down to me and her :drunk::happy:  )

My Candy white Yeti is all gloss white under the bonnet - good because it's easy to see any corrosion that might be starting. I keep it all clean and WD40'd in the areas that get dirty from thro' the grille.

I've never had a car that was a different colour under the bonnet - must be saving on metallic paint!

Thanks again for your replies, results look pretty split .

It does appear that Skoda are penny pinching which seems a bit of cheek when they put up the price of metallic finishes to almost £500 just before I ordered mine back in January.

My 2011 Cappuccino is grey under the bonnet.

My Cappuccino is also grey under the bonnet. The question is, had I bought grey for the exterior would it have been painted cappuccino under the bonnet.

For years (& years) Ford amongst others haven't painted the engine compartment with the exterior colour on metallic finish cars.

I wouldn't worry about it - even on Yetis that were fully painted, things like headlamp support brackets etc weren't body colour (unless your car was black!).
