Vrs uprated discs and pads none used?

Featured Replies

I run Greenstuff all round and have no problems stopping. Green stuff is not suitable for cars with over 200bhp eg Scoobies. In that case use Red or yellows. My father uses Red ceramic on his Scooby for many years and never had problems. I've had OEM Skoda pads de-laminate on our other Fabia.

As for discs, if your going for bigger brakes, plain ones will be perfectly good. Grooved ones may be better at clearing muck/dust from the pad/disc surface but they will be noisy when breaking.

Last car I ran them on was running 120bhp which last time I checked was less than 200bhp, I was assured this was the 5th? generation of compound and I wouldn't have the same issues as previously. The car weighed nothing (it had plastic bodywork) and they were still crap. After properly bedding them in I found they could be cooked in 2-3 corners, EBC didn't offer a Red Stuff pad or I'd have fitted it. As to the scooby point you did read my post didn't you? Why do you think they now state 200bhp or under bearing in mind I specifically mentioned they did a U turn on pad recommendations for scoobies ? :)

It seems we agree on the only benefit of groves and dimples though :)

I must say I've seen quite a few forums slate ebc pads so would avoid anyway, weren't they one of the big advertisers in max power?? Maybe why so many cars as and saxos got wrote off lol
I changed the fluid about 4000 mile ago when I freed off the nsr caliper but will change it again when I do the discs and pads

Any chance you got air in the system?

Deffo no air in it I had someone sat inside pumping it. They're all corroded and pitted but just don't feel to bite like my last car. My st200 I had was the same, felt underbraked and everyone did the 300mm upgrade. Same with these they feel underbraked which is why everyone goes 312mm

Agree with Avalon re the green stuff - they are not good - replaced them after a week - admittedly I do drive it hard, consequently I like to be able to stop when required !

Yes but did you have a tube with a one way valve on the nipple end and make sure the reservoir never got low enough to pull air in?

I also ran Scoob for 12 years running 240bhp and the Brakes were rubbish if you had to do an emergency stop, try not to be travelling at speed or it was clench time. Our Fabia has 312's and I know I can stop if we need to, these are more than enough for 130bhp.

Oh gosh I'm glad you guys said that!!!!

Well I won't be getting green stuff pads then.......

But still getting groved discs, especially for my fronts as it just looks like I've got a large frying pan under my alloys.

I have green stuff and ebc discs on my 312s and they have been more than sufficient so far.

When it comes to change I'll give something else a try. Possibly the ferodo pads.
