  • I only hope it gets to the last race and Vettel needs Webber to stay behind him so Vettel can win his 4th World Title, only he's done too many laps on his tyres and they won't last to the end if he ha

  • Don't think this has been posted yet but saw it on Facebook and had to share

Knew it wouldn't be long until they announced, was only a matter of time.

Word is Heikki is in, after Schui refused lol

Now confirmed by Lotus.

Checo really showed some class. He could have done a Maldonado and slagged off the team but he didn't. Him and Gutierrez at Sauber would be good. Really want Heikki to have a good few races, He's gone 60 races without scoring a point and this is a great opportunity to prove himself.

And Heikki is fast in the Lotus. Not surprising but showing another talent wasted

Perez has already been quoted saying how unorganised Macca are blah blah blah so hardly "grown up" IMO.

So this weekend beckons and the last race of what has been a very interesting season. Not only is it the last race but also the end of an era, in the V8 engines before the new smaller V6 turbo units come in next year.

Sunday also brings to a close the F1 career of Mark Webber before he heads off to Porsche and Sportscar Racing. Although he'd like to sign off with a win, he'll need a monumental performance to overhaul Vettel. Since he started as a test driver for Arrows in 2000, he's competed in over 200 races, securing 41 podium finishes of which 9 were wins. 3rd was his highest championship finish in 2010 and 2011. However, IMO he can leave the sport with his head held high with a great deal of pride - apparently he will leave the circuit on Sunday night and fly home, no parties, no fanfare, that's that.

There are some other notable things about this season:

  • Massa finishes his 7 year stint with Ferrari. I am so glad he has got a seat for next season despite the face that he has gone off a bit since his accident - the move to Williams may well spark his career back again
  • Is has been McLaren's worst season, EVER. In 33 years they have never failed to score a single podium finish - until now. Really don't know why the car has been a dog this year but equally neither driver has performed. Was Perez the right move for McLaren and will Magnussen be the right choice for 2014?

After Hamilton's move to Mercedes, everyone wrote him off as it being the wrong move but Merc have proved everyone wrong and with some strong results on Sunday, they could finish 2nd in the championship - no mean feat considering this year wasn't going to be the one for them.

Although this season has been a one horse race for most of the time, and been pretty boring at times, I am really looking forward to a new era next season with the 1.6 turbos. Not sure what the cars will look like but the video animation on this link tries to give us an idea: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/video/f1-technik-reglement-2014-im-video-7913407.html

Hope it's more interesting than this year !   I sort of stopped watching after Germany as it was clear who was going to win. I did more or less the same when the last German did that too...

Nice summary Coops. Hope next year will be better.

Vettel totally dominant in the qualifying rain today. For all the doubters out there............this fellah can really drive a car.

TBH I'd be more impressed if Vettel was winning despite not having the best car.

I can't get that vision of Natalie Pinkham in the jacuzzi out of my head for some reason.  Mark may have gone, but he'll not be forgotten. Driving around without a helmet was interesting - how do you get a hans device off whilst driving ?

That was quite cool. After the race he spoke to Brundle about it. He was starting to undo the helmet during his last lap i.e. during the actual race! He said it was quite some effort to get it all undone so he could remote it

TBH I'd be more impressed if Vettel was winning despite not having the best car.

He is clearly one of the best, but I think he needs a non-Newey car and a top team mate to really prove he is the best.

Yes, Ken. I too would like to see him in a lesser car, so that we could assess him more objectively.

Nevertheless, his dominance is impressive.

Merc have confirmed that Ross Brawn has gone "fishing".

He's taking time out of the sport, maybe a year, so will be interesting to see if and where he returns.

He is a loss. Mercedes are desperate for success having invested so much resource in their team.

It would not surprise me to see them out performed again by Red Bull and possibly others. Big is not always best.
