Where's the chrome window surround gone?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys, a lot of the later photos of the Octavia 3 (including the ones used for the pre launch shoot and shown on the actual UK TV advert) show it with a full chrome effect window surround. However, the two cars Ive seen (both Elegance spec cars so flagship ones currently) dont have the chrome and make do with the usual black rubber seals.

Is anyone else sad enough to have noticed this?! :bandit:

I really like the chrome surround as I think it makes the overall external appearance look far more classy... does anyone have an explanation for this? Has anyone seen one with the chrome at a dealers? Where's the bling gone?!

Very interesting, thanks Zed.

One dealers has now told me they have never seen the chrome and that all Octavias will have black. I want the Chrome! I'll ask about this option with a UK dealer. :)

I noticed the Octavia was missing it too on the Autocar review of the 2.0 tdi...

It looks rubbish without it!

Yeah it's a 125 euro option on cars here. Looks well though, have to say!

Another item to add to the SUK banned options list then...

Like the reversible boot floor promised on both the website and in the brochure yet missing from both the demonstrators at the dealers :(

The Dealers we visited both had SE spec cars neither had the chrome strip nor the reversible boot floor, I wonder what else has been left off UK market vehicles. The lack of the chrome surround makes the car look cheap and the lack of the promised reversible boot floor is just penny pinching. I am beginning to go off the Octavia III, Audi A3 Sportback perhaps???? with a PCP it probably won't work out much more expensive.

I liked the chrome surrounds!!

That's rough depriving us of it for the sake of £96!!!

It probably only costs about £30 to fit in the factory. It's probably VAG dictating to Skoda in order to hold up sales of Golfs. They can't have Skodas looking smarter than the parents offspring.

I did think it was very unusual, the c segment skoda model getting the chrome surround at last. All the photos of the new model I've really liked have been with the chrome so I'll be digging a bit deeper to see if its possible to spec on a uk car.

Personally, I prefer it without the chrome!

Sarge.

There is always one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's another one here.

No chrome thanks.

I had a BMW 330d Sport with the high gloss exterior, not chrome, as it looks naff on them.

Same with my vRS, with just black strips.

Think chrome looks ok on some cars, but not a Skoda.

Totally disagree but then we are all individuals of course! I think the contrast of the chrome against anything darker than the silver paint looks far classier. It also gives more visual impact to the window shape and emphasises the kick up detail on the C pillar. Looks ever better on the estate as it matches and runs parallel with the chrome roof rails. ALso, it doesnt leave the chrome grill surround looking lost as the only chrome piece on the car with nothing to match to - again imo. :)

I guess that's the idea of an option - you have it if you want to?

Be nice to be given the option, though...

Exactly that. SUK shouldnt decide not to give us the option! :@

You'd have thought they'd jump at the chance of making a few more £££s from a sale....but obviously not..

Now that I do like.

To be honest, they are not very wide strips (unlike some you see on other marques), and particularly on the estate I agree it does look good.

:)

Got reply from Vindis Skoda Cambridge via Twitter saying, Chrome window surrounds are currently not available in UK, however, they will let me know,

if & when they are.

So maybe we can have them fitted at a later date!

I seem to recall that some of the early Superb Mk2's came through without it initially and then all trim levels got it as standard some time after launch?

I'm off on hols till the middle of April - when I return, first thing on my list will be to contact SUK and see if there are any further news on the chrome surrounds... but I wont hold my breath.

That does look very nice, classy even.

I like what they've done with the wheel arches (think it's the same with the new Golf) and the new nose is far tidier than the facelift.

+1 !!

Chrome window surrounds will definitely be 'required equipment'!

I'm not that bothered by the chrome surrounds, but clearly some people are. This is why this forum is required reading for Skoda buyers. Reminds me of the whole Maxidot affair, the average dealer never recommending or advising on it, but lots of people on here trying to educate people on its benefits. Also, lots of others who regret not getting it at point of sale.

I can see chrome trim being quite rare on some of the early models, might make them more desirable/rare if even the dealers haven't a clue.
