VCDS coding

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get rid of the seat belt warning bong, and also enable the rear marker lights to come on with the DRLs.

The first bit is available, but has anyone the coding for the lights? My friend who has the cable doesn't know.

If you are referring to the rear "Side" or "Parking Lights" try this link

Basically it will tell you that at present, it cannot be done with VCDS, but that the dealers own system can turn them on for you................Tony

I'm looking to get rid of the seat belt warning bong

Why?

Perhaps the same reason I had mine removed. I resent a machine that I purchase, own and control seeking to tell me what to do. I accept some people may need to be told to wear a seatbelt but I don't.

Almost all of this is, I suspect, driven by the same sort of idiocy which causes take away coffee cups to tell people that they may contain hot liquid. Those who don't realise that shouldn't be out without carers.

Why?

Because I very often spend a consideral time in and out of the car not on a public highway, where wearing the belt would get it dirty, be a nuisance and take up time when in a hurry.

The noise is very irritating anyway :giggle:

Then do what I do; and do the belt up first and then sit on it. Odd things you discover when out birding...

Alternatively - if you are not going to use the belt legally, get another clip from a scrappy and leave it plugged in.

It isn't "telling you what to do", it is reminding you of a safety and legal requirement. I guess you also resent it telling you to refuel, or that the weather is cold?

If you don't need to be told then i assume you always wear a belt, so you'll never hear the bong...? I know I have never heard mine as seatbelt wearing is so ingrained I do it automatically, even in off-highway locations.

BTW, all above meant in devils's-advocate-jest  - I actually agree with the essence of what you're saying, especially the hot coffee thing. :D

Taken as meant-but I am just too old and grumpy to accept this kind of thing. I recorded the GP and practice so I could watch it when it suits me. When I went to watch it I was confronted by my Virgin media Nanny box requiring a pin number as the recording was of material broadcast after 9pm.

Good idea, thanks.

Just got to find a belt clip insert now; pity scrappies seem to have been "vanished" by H&S regimes.

There again, I could file one up from a lump of scrap metal :giggle:

That's a very kind offer, thank you.

However, I've just found this http://www.ebay.co.u...6597324&afsrc=1 and it's on order.

Hi Jerry

I was going to ask you to let us know how durable the things appear to be when you get it/them but for that price I may as well get 'em anyway, for exactly the same reason as you when working on events.

Incidentally, I reckon they might also be useful to convert the rear seatbelt buckle into a lashing point when carrying stuff with the rear seat backs folded.

Another good idea :giggle: . I'll let you know next week as it's on the way already.

If it is useful, I might get a few more.

I'm frequently driving on my own relatively slowly around an airfield, and to stop the seat belt warning sound, I plug the passenger seatbelt into my side.

Thanks, another good idea though not for me.

Why not :giggle: , 'cos I've got a laptop on the passenger seat with OS gps mapping software. And I don't have/want a clever phone that can do all that - I need a big screen for detail.

The bit came today - all the way from Hong Kong and £1.88. Crudely stamped and chromed, but very good for the intended use. In fact I might order three more, one for the passenger seat and then for lashing points using the seat belt receivers on the rear seats.

So they sound reasonably ok Jerry - thanks for the update. Hopefully mine should arrive in the next few days too. Would be handy to have them in time for setting up my next Sprint (at Aintree) on 27th.

Cheers John H

Is the gap in the top part big enough to get the end of a bungee strap through?

Or would it have to be webbing?

It's the same as the OEM male buckle bit.

I've got some B&Q velcro straps I can use anyway - bungee posibly not.
