Fuel Tank Size 140 4x4

Featured Replies

Does it matter, well yes and no. I would like to be sure that in any given situation when the guage is on red....I still have a little flexibility in range. (150-200kms is a lot of flexibility) Secondly, I measure my fuel consumption by how many kms I get per tank fill. I have achieved 750-950 kms per tank. If I have another 100-200 kms in the tank when the guage goes to red, it makes the Yeti quite good on fuel. If I am only achieving those figures on a 55 Lt tank, then they are not so good.

But if you know the tank is full and you zero the trip km then refill you know the kms covered for the said refill volume v- that will never change much depending on driving style/load etc for that refill - you will still have that used fuel vol in your tank!

If I am only achieving those figures on a 55 Lt tank, then they are not so good.

I might be wrong, but don't you mean 'even better on a 55 litre tank'?......,

You cannot measure your consumption accurately "by the tank" - you must measure it by "how much you put in"! Surely.

Yes I did mean that.

Regarding the comment in the above post. (You cannot measure your consumption accurately "by the tank" - you must measure it by "how much you put in"! Surely.)

I do measure my consumption like that, not scientific but I like it that way.

I will fill the tank to the point where I can see the fuel...same with my Octavia.

The Octavia (55 lt Tank) will do very consistantly 900-1000 kms to the red line. No Probs.

The Yeti on the other hand its really a mixed bag. I have done nearly 1000 kms on a tank (Best); the worst being about 750 Kms...weather related.

The problem is, the use of the vehicle remains much the same over the course of the tank.

Like I said, if I knew the tank size it would help me more understand the car.

One final point, there are eight segments to the fuel guage. Generally I do 100 kms per segment...apart from the two either side of the half way mark where I mostly (not all the time) do extra 100 kms. That gives me 900kms on a tank. Refil 53/54 Litres. So do I have an extra 100-200 left in the tank ??? No I dont think so.

I don't know if you saw the episode of Top Gear where they drove 3 different cars from the continent to Blackpool. The Jag Clarkson was driving, even though it's range was 0 for ages could have travelled I think over another 100 miles before it ran out of fuel.

Mike: if you believe they really did what they did on one tank on Top Gear (instead of doing what they did as per the script written months before) then well you'll believe anything JC says too... :giggle:

Case in point: their cross continent "races". With a Veyron or whatever. How many times in said clip do you see the film crew Range Rover ahead or behind it?! And to film the Veyron going past the second Range Rover (there is always two) has to scout ahead, set up the camera, wait for Veyron to pass and then catch up again... all in one day?! All with the Veyron and JC going "flat out" to "beat" the train/plane/etc. Utter rubbish. LOL

So they filled those cars many a time with fuel and James May was ALWAYS going to be late and last even if he was towing a trailer with a 300 litre oil tank of fuel connected to his car!

Ok rant over.

Back OT: on my Audi I loved it when the needle didn't move for about 80 miles after filling it right to the top. On the Yeti it starts to move after about 20 miles. :'(

It is probably the most accurate method that "Joe Public" has got to measure their economy (or otherwise) and to be honest is probably fairly accurate if you always fill to same cut-oof point. Even it is only a litre different that is still less than 10% out, which statistically is allowable.

Sorry a bit off topic again: Mike in view of what I said above see what came to light today about Top Gear:

http://jalopnik.com/james-may-destroyed-11-wheels-during-top-gears-range-r-471836901

Did they even ONCE edit that segment in a way to show them changing ELEVEN wheels?!

But even so I love Top Gear.
