Yeti Re-map

Recommended Posts

I'm due to collect a Yeti cr170 4x4 on Wednesday and am planning on a re-map. Shark have been highly recommended and they've suggested a stage 1 re-map to 205bhp.

Before I get the Yeti booked in for the work I'd appreciate any feedback people may have of this particular application - thanks.

Paul

Richard will say but I think his will be from Jabba. I'm tempted by the Shark map, but mainly for the smoother drive and slight increase in mpg - I'm not at all unhappy with the stock power in the 170 (having not regularly driven anything over 110 BHP before the Yeti).

Hi all, I am Manfred from Australia, I have just bought a 2.0TDI CR140 with DSG I have now only 200 km on the car, I would like a comment on this product, if at all possible, http://www.chipexpress.com/products/2098/ , I have found as yet no one in Perth who can do a remap, thank you

Wonder if anyone has had the 1.6TDi chipped on a Yeti yet. Might prove a good replacement for the 2.0TDi 2wd found in some non-UK markets, albeit with a 5sp gearbox...

Shark have just released code for the 1.6tdi CR http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/269913-16tdi-remaps-now-available-from-shark-performance-130bhp399/

Hi Manfred,

Looking at that product it appears similar to a tuning box that I ran some years ago. The box of tricks interrupts the signal to the fuel injectors and 'fools' the ECU into thinking the ambient temperature is much colder than it actually is. The injectors then pump in more fuel and hence the increase in performance.

As far as I am aware this product does not alter boost, merely fuelling.

IMHO you'd be better of talking to Shark about one of their STS (Self Tuning System) whereby they can email you the remap and you upload it to your car using the STS. (it's a bit more scientific than that but generally speaking that's how it works

IIRC one of our members in NZ uses the STS system for his Mk1 Octavia

AFAIK the Shark STS system is unfortunately not available for a Yeti, as manual access is required to the ECU rather than programming via the OBD port. :'( :'(

The STS units can only be used on 'unlocked ' ECU's as far as I'm aware.

Unless anything has changed, the the CR140 ECU is locked and the only way to remap is by taking out the ECU. Mine had to be removed to be remapped.

Any company that remaps any of the latest VAG CR diesels should be able to remap the CR140 as it is used in many Audi, Skoda, Seat & VW vehicles.

Hi Manfred,

I'm too from Perth and i've been exploring the options for chipping vs remapping. There aren't a lot of places that will remap the Skoda, some have suggested in other threads to try a VW specialist to do a remap as they are similar engines to the Skoda.

I've looked here and a few other places, but based on what others have said, i'm not sure which is best, chips appear to alter the fuel distribution to the engine causing it to go faster where as remapping changes the whole dynamics of how much power the engine puts out?

This is one place I was going to look at for my chip.

Where did you get your Yeti from?

Cheers,

Ben

@Arkaig & Rockhopper, hmmmm you may be right.

I'm sure I heard a conversation to the contrary either when I was at Shark HQ the other week or at the East Mids meet afterwards.

Yes, Brimma was talking about the 1.6CR coding that Shark were on the verge of launching and he mentioned that they were no longer an ECU out job IIRC.

Best for the OP to confirm direct with Shark

hi Ben, I bought it from dvg Skoda in Melville, never again, it turned out to be an unhappy and disappointing experience, took 7 weeks to deliver a dirty car, bluetooth not working (I ordered the Columbus option and leather seats), ordered carpets were not in the car and are on back order, grease marks on ceiling fabric, and between quarter and reserve tankful of fuel.

I do not know if it is a common thing in Australia, the build date of the Yeti was November 2011 yet was sold as 2013 model. I find the car nice to drive.

I went there to have a look. I asked the guy if he could do anything on the price they had them at of $32,990 and he said probably not... only to see in the paper that weekend that they were $31,990. Sure it's not much more to pay but thats not the point. I went and looked at some in Osbourne park and they too were 2011 builds, but selling as 2013 models. From what I understand though, some of the 2011 builds had the 4x4 off road button without the need to order it.

Think BossFox has a stage 1 from shark on his 170 yeti.

Very approachable fellow, drop him a pm and see what he thinks of it.

Sorry, bit late to the party. :)

Yes, I have a remap on my 170 CR and it's good.

Mine is a Jabba map, but Shark are well thought of and I would be happy with either.

In fact, if I was looking for a remap these are probably the only two firms I would use personally.

But I use Jabbasport as they get involved in my barmy projects.

They will give you around 200bhp, more torque and make the car much more responsive and smoother.

Before my map I tried a tuning box (the better one that plugs into fuelling and boost) and it was good, but no where near as good as the remap.

It did give a slug of torque making the car feel fast, but it was actually slower and not as smooth.

Before you do it just check you are happy with the method of mapping.

On some cars the ECU can't be accessed to remap it without removing it from the car and opening it up.

Which obviously could have potential warranty complications later, although these are pretty reliable vehicles.

BTW, a 200bhp diesel Yeti with 4x4 is pretty quick. :D

hi again Ben,

Barbagello?? had damaged vehicles on the show room floor, DVG " found" one with leather in at the Skoda hq if there is such a thing in Melbourne the seats were not even electric, and no button not that i would really need it, Barbagello did not even bother to enquire, my Audi S6 is still in Cape Town any clue how to get it here, we allowed only to bring one vehicle, did you buy this Yeti?

Not quite as quick as a 350bhp 1.8tsi petrol Yeti though......

Or a CitiGoGo for that matter....

Or a modified yellow Nissan GTR.....

and a lot quicker than my CR140

Nope.

Mine is just a stock car with a remap.

No serious tweaking and no bigger brakes.

And it's drinking from that dodgy black pump... ;)

Hi chaps. I am in Adelaide. We just bought a 1.2TSI DSG for my wife. It was made quite clear by the salesman that it was a Nov 2011 build, "MY2012". He had a few to offload. He was offering it at a lower price because of that. We were quite happy with the deal, basically $26k drive away. We know when we sell it, it will be as a 2011 car, but our cars are usually sold at about five years with only about 50,000km on the clock, so it will sell for a fair price anyway. We were disappointed with two things: one, some tumbleweed caught underneath, which should have been cleaned off, and the rear number plate wasn't fitted well enough (fell off when we drove in our garage). Otherwise, happy with the dealer.

Peter
