Xav's original fabia with a new lease of life

Discovered today that some of the oem pipework still had a 30mm bore so splashed out on the full alloy kit with 57mm bore. May end up getting the seat sport Fmic which is bigger than the forge one.

Car started on first turn of key with new injectors and head.

All going well :)

Thanks mate.

First "WOT" runs are about to start. Exciting times :)

Right, caved in and have decided to upgrade the FMIC. I haven't gone for the DD / Seat Sport one, something similar but probably slightly bigger. DD didn't have theirs ready for dispatch which also tempted me to go for an alternative. Deep 60mm core so should provide a lot more effective cooling than my first gen Forge which I'll probably put on here for sale :)

The new one will sit in front of the normal radiator, but have gone for a stealth black look so you won't really notice it's there... Apparently, will need to cut away some of the crash bar but only a little amount and not completely removing it which is something I wanted to avoid. Also, being in black, the element of surprise has to be worth a few horses ;)

So spending more money than I had anticipated but it's going to be worth it in the long run B) or at least that's my justification for it.

Man maths - all sounds perfectly sensible to me :D

Man maths is the best. They should teach it in school.

Lol man maths. Never heard of that before!

For those interested, I picked up the airtec one from their eBay shop

Was going to say it sounds like the Airtec one, been tempted by black with red logo for a few weeks now!

Spoke to them on the phone and they were very friendly and helpful. Waiting for the delivery now although it's not likely to arrive before Monday as I just missed their dispatch cutoff time.

you got an idea of what you'll be selling your current FMIC for? :)

  • Author

Err I hadn't thought about it. I'll have a look at what they've been going for and then put a post up :)

Great thread B)

Had been wondering how close anyone was to the mongrels power :)

  • Author

I'm not in a contest to beat the mongrel. Also, I think I have a smaller turbo - Jason's "upgraded" from a 2260 :o

So perfectly acceptable to have a lower HP.

Also, not running NOS, ethanol or anything else :)

Hoping to get into the 300s and still give Eddie another chance to eat another hat :D

Those nozzles look good for the fuelling needed. :)

I am hoping with my new manifold and high boost map I will be comfortably into the 300s.

It will be good to see Ross' old motor up there as well.

Even 280 odd is a great figure to have in a Fabia.

Today was a good day. Well, I say good when it was rather frustrating at times, but some progress was made... I guess you could say there was the good, the bad and the ugly, but in reverse order.

First off, here's the original Forge FMIC still fitted to the car:

Coked up with road sludge and oil...

Then off it came.

In fact, when comparing to the new one, there was a recurring theme :)

Old vs New FMIC

:D

The ugly stuff was in fact the Darkside Development pipe kit still had some swarf ready to be sucked into the turbo :o So best to check (like with any piping) that it's clean before installing

So that's all been cleaned up.

Another pain is that the Airtec IC didn't come with any brackets. DD supply their own but I hadn't bought it so we had to fabricate some adaptors to secure it in place.

The pipework on the new stuff is bigger by quite a few mm, so much that you can fit the old piping into the new stuff.

:)

And with the Airtec one in place - went for the stealth black look B)

The crash bar has been cut away thanks to the angle grinder - today's best friend LOL. It'll be refitted tomorrow.

A huge thanks to Bobby for his tenuous efforts in angle grinding, pipe cleaning and general awesome work on the progress. In fact, I think he's been rather impressed with the Airtec stuff that he's set up a trade account with them :)

Trade account you said.....can we get parts through him from them? ;)

Coming along well, and that turbo is lovely!

Like the black cooler but I think I'd have to go for the Airtec logo on it too! :P

Great work - loving the new FMIC

Good spot on the swarf in the pipes there.

Did the airtec intercooler not come with all the pipes needed for the installation, how come you got the darkside stuff too?

Thanks :)

Probably because the Darkside kit is a hard pipe kit rather than lots of joins.

Less chance of a boost leak when there's going to be that much boost going through it.

Airtec don't yet have a pipe kit for the Fabia yet.

I went with the darkside one as it had the larger diameter pipes as well as being solid

Is there a direct link to the company / manufacturer?  Struggling to find it and I want to ask about a top outlet version.

The pipework kit is ok but very difficult to get right. You get one side right then the other side dont match. I think one joint would be nice to allow for alignment etc. Also, would make working on the car abit nicer as currently if the pipework is in the way you'd have to take the bumper off to remove the pipe. But still we have 57mm pipework now.

Jason how thick is your core? Allard core is normally very good.

Does look like it reduces doesn't it. Still looks like a nice kit :)
