No matter how hard you try, or how much you know, you will never convince the unconvinceable :(

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that they will never crack newer ECUs, I had a Auris SR180 before the Fabia, and the Denso ECUs have never been cracked in many years.

Cheers

Once again, as I said before, must be difficult for you to look in a mirror then :D.

I rang a revo tuner in Preston who says he will be able to do a 2013 seat ibiza tdi (once I get it and have been I will let you know) otherwise it's ecu out and sent to revo HQ

I'll be very surprised if they can do it without taking the ECU out, but will happily eat my words if they do

Have you not tried Jabo Tuning? ;)

No I know the ecu is coming out and being probed to allow obd mapping :-) that's how my last one was done.

That didn't seem to be what you said above

Sorry i meant if they can't probe it in house it will be sent to revo HQ, ecu is coming out either way

Jabbaosport? ;-)

good choice and good map onthe 1.4TSI so one to consider from personal experience.

Jabosport, Sy, not Jabbasport

When you finally manage to map it with ODB II ONLY (without opening the ECU up) let me know :)

Remember this is down to the manufactures of the hardware tuners use. Not the tuner. So you need to wait for the likes of alientech, cmd, byteshooter etc.

But the my knowledge (shark, apr please correct me if I'm wrong) but the days of obd mapping without first opening the ecu and bootloading (or whatever method) are numbered.

My personal view is what does it matter I'd the ecu is opened, dealer or whoever can still find out if its been altered.

arghhhhh lol

More "idiot proof" if you don't have to take bits out. Not all of them know what they are doing ;). Plugging a connector in is less of challenge and hardly calls for that angle grinder to be rolled out ;)

I thought my NDA's were rock solid! :D

Fair point. But remember obd always contains a risk (be it very small risk). In the event of a bad write then the ecu will Likely need opening.

So why not spill the beans, and explain how it can be done in that way, when no-one else has managed to yet?

Are you suggesting mappers take the ECU out for no reason other than the sheer hell of it?

No I think he's just replying to the guy saying "what's it matter if ecu is taken out or not" as in if not having to be taken out more people could be doing it?

Not all of them know what they are doing ;).

Thats a statement right there!! Quantify that to us. What have you based that on? and the wink assumes that you obviosuly do know?

Yes, that's what I meant exactly:)

Wasn't it your ECU that was opened using a grinder or the like by one of the tuners you let to do the development works on your car? Can't be bothered to find the correct thread and photos if still here.

Then you went somewhere else and they were able to do it properly i.e. without breaking anything and "gooing" it back together? That's hardware. Then you have Revo exams who "tune" by requesting max boost at all times lol.

I know the link you are talking of. It wasnt mine though.

But none of the tuners open the ECU with a grinder. What some of them do is grind off the sheer bolts of the bracket which holds the ECU in place, but that is all the grinder is used for. Other tuners use mole grip pliers or dremels to have the same effect.

That is certainly something I will not allow to be done to my car!

Also, where is the logic here? If manufacturers wouldn't mind and do not Cary about anybody messing with ECU's why on earth go to such lengths with mechanical security and soft encryption?!?
