2013+ cannot be remapped

Featured Replies

I'd never buy a vRS to do serious tuning to or any other Skoda. A small remap is fine but if you buy a car almost built for it from the start is the best way to do it.

  • Jabo can you give this a rest now, it was amusing at first to see you making an fool of yourself, however its now becoming cringe-worthy and frankly really boring as im sure many other will agree. Ev

Even REVO got around to the conclusion that the engine needed to be running right before even doing a Stage 1 re-map.

(maybe it was good for them, that they could put some of their past failures down to the original manufacturing!)

Encryption unhackable? It was done in less than 5 days two years ago :) hence now we have 2045bit systems

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/09/1024-bit-rsa-encryption-cracked-by-carefully-starving-cpu-of-ele/

Afterall that "3rd party" from which the "bypass" comes has to hype up the stakes to keep charging a good dollar :)

If you do not mind the warranty sailing away I'd imagine the use of aftermarket, specialist performance, fully programmable ECU's is the best way forward - do whatever you want without any guess work...

Do we know the cut-off production date for the motors with new ECUs?

I know off atleast 2 tuners here in Sweden atleast who after some modifcations off the older boxes (mines a 2011) can actually go through the OBD-port and reprogram it there :).

EDIT : people said that never could be done...

So I guess the 1024-encryption will be broken aswell ;). Time will tell!

It was in 2010 - see the link above :).

I always found it amazing the claims that it is not possible to reflash the ECU from ODB II port. How the hell do they do at the dealership when they reflash it when new ECU programming is released by Skoda??

Thats pretty obvious. They as In VAG(Vw AUdi, Seat, Skoda) have the original encryption codes so have access when they connect into the central VAG network hub.

Precisely, the flaw will be the tech's flogging the encryption key to the tuners

Crikey, there's a lot of assumption and misinformation in this thread.

I'm not aware of a change to the TP but have heard (not yet seen) that some of the newest MED17 ECUs don't have CCP enabled on the processor at all.

I'm not going to comment or theorise further as I haven't seen this particular ECU. I'm happy to look at it if the owner wants to come and see us. The outcome might be the same, it might not.

Exactly :). Combine your answer with my post 28 and what do you get? ODB II tunable cars:). No need to take it apart, probe connections and the like. Do it the same way a dealership tellies does it :). I am not entertaining the legal side of things as according to the current English Law it is a criminal offence to gain an unauthorised access to a computer system, just access, you don't have to do anything else:) If you can be bothered check out what is defined as a "computer system"-I was very surprised! Car's ECU certainly falls under this definition...

Hence the route of a fully programmable aftermarket ECU's for cars or CPU controlled signal interception and conditioning boxes will at some point be the only thing available. If the manufacturers didn't really bother about the tuning scene they would be be typing their ECUs or making them do difficult to open...

I hate posting from iPhone... Just read the above and cried lol

You seem to make tuning sound so, so easy, Jab, I'm surprised you haven't started your own business before now, and be raking in the millions

I believe I might have said the same thing when he first joined :giggle:

Also, everything is easy when you know how to do it :). I am yet to see a ECU "tuner" working with wide Lambda data (most cars have narrow band sensors) or checking compression ratios, valves leakage etc. I am not surprised since such a service would cost thousands and not hundreds. As for the tuning Freddie mentioned that in Sweden they sussed it out and do ODB II tuning already...

All right, all right - tuning is a black art, tuning houses know what they are doing and I am as usual talking out of the wrong end - All happy now? :D

It may be a computer, but its not illegal to access your own property.

I wish it was possible to get my hands on your car and fix it for you, perhaps that would stop the giggles? Sorry, forgot ai know $hit and tuners are be all and end all-I promise to keep quiet and only make silly posts like " that headlight pattern looks like a koock LOL" ...

Your my hero!!

BTW, the google search engine and wikipedia wont fix my car lol

Never heard of them - the are some crap tuners from your neck of woods?

the future aint bright if i heard right, they are looking into making complete APR ECU's to swap with the stock one as its impossible to pass the encryption.

why oh why did i buy a new VRS, should of bought a 2nd hand Golf R, there was a sweet one there on saturday and i came to the conclusion that its possibly the best car in the world.

I have an idea; why don't you drive the car as it is and enjoy it.

Unfortunately the protection cannot be cracked with that method.

The "encryption" is a SHA hash calculated from a few non-additive block checksums, that is signed by the 1024bit RSA. It cannot be brute forced, and that byte switching "weakness" cannot be exploited with the TC17xx processors. The hash also is immune to collision attacks. It also has some "security through obscurity" issues which make cracking it slower.

I have a big head, 42cm as I just bought a new lid today and had to measure. It is assumed that well developed humans do not use more than 10% of their brains so I reckon there is still some wiggle room inside ;).

Why hasn't it filtered down from Sweden? How the hell am I suppose to know? Maybe they want to keep it to themselves? Swedish tuning market is much bigger that our one.

I would like to point out, that the info was filtered FROM the UK (well, technically Finland and UK) TO Sweden, not the other way round. I happen to know more about this than you do...

ooo i love it when a thread leaves its course and turns into a Brimma vs zuma **** swinging competition

Cant you guys do this on every thread ..........oh wait ...you do ....apologies

Thats not possible. Jabo knows everything. Google told him

Interesting. Do we know what version of the MED17.5 is fitted to the 2013 models?

I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time before the likes of alientech, optican, evc find a way round it and supply an update to their customers (tuners).

Its not about the version, its about CCP.
