Felicia instrument panel bulbs

Introducing, and from Poland no less................

(Adurer, you should recognise the pictures in both links, you posted them here in February)

After the Polish car market was initially taken by storm by the "Indiglo" (mind quotation marks) application to dashboards, clients became disappointed after 2-3 months (around May 2013). Dials went darker or stopped working. Why? Because unlike true Indiglo technology (mainly used in hand watches), that private Polish company is using a cheap Chinese replica technology that is based on spraying a special substance on a printable plastic substrate. That substance emits light if a potential of 200-400 V is applied. Problem is the substance and the associated 12V cc - 400V ac inverter are as reliable as economical fluorescent bulbs made in China. So they stopped selling in Poland and went on eBay where some people are willing to pay that obscene price for a POS replica. Don't you just love eBay?

In fact, if you look closely at photo below, you'll realize how badly looks the odometer and trip counter. They are still lighted by the same old, dim yellowish bulbs. They are even less readable due to dials glowing effect.

So that brings me to my initial solution: new dial faces printed on a color laser printer.

I found a way to dim all dash lights even my bright dash lights and all the led switchs and still on oem wireing and even have electric head light adjustment and self leveling

Hmmmm, sounds interesting. Will have to bring the Fun up there and have a look ;)

Have you found out if they do MPH dials, as the ones they show are all KPH.

I intend to concentrate of getting SWMBOs car straight and free of rust before I start looking at tarting it up, but I will be keeping an eye on some of these dash mods.

I have asked the question. Will let you know when an answer comes.

Any time alex maybe have two funs side by side....

The answer came back as a, very polite, "no, but if you can provide us with a scan, we might be able to do it as a special order".

I still have the dials from the scrapped truck, I'll dig them out and scan them in: at least there'll be an MPH template that other people could use.

that's how I did mine.... make that two lots...

Hello everybody.  This is an old tread, but I was reading this and some other info on the web since my old 1996 Felicia with 220k Km and I decided to dismount the instrument cluster.

I ve found that (i guess)  all bulbs are the original ones.  As described above in this tread, blue and green.

All bulbs lit (indicators and background) but it seems time has made its own wear.  Light seems to be diminished and i found not too bright the inside of the panel. As i ve said.. the years my friends. Time time time..

Anyway the job is halfway. Just some cleaning, checking connections and plug it back on.

Do you think if i must change to new bulbs and discard the current ones?

Also, How is the process to dismount switches from the dash frame?  If a switch indicator light is not  working, how to disassembly the switch and change the bulb.

Cheers from Bogota.

Yes but only those for the back light (green).

Another reason for low light is the plastic for the guide light has melted and turned brown.

There are also LED bulbs.

Ricardo, Thanks for the Reply.

Report: Job done.  Same incandescent bulbs.

Indicators and background ok.   It took a bit more time cause i noticed the instruments were looking a little dirty.  Of  course  after  2 decades too much contaminated air made a trace.  The cluster is not fully sealed. It has 2 holes,  were the mechanical push resets the partial odo and the control of the digital clock (revs meter model). Those holes act like a vent and catch all the dirt, so the faces of the clocks became cloudy and messy.  Anyway just remove the plastic/acrylic glass by pushing the 5 tabs on the top and loosen it very easy.  A dampf cloth ..(just a part of the cloth)  and clean  very slowly and carefully with the needles. repeated the proces twice and done. Also washed the glass.

Reassembly and ready to go.  Difference is notorious.

Cheers

The cluster prior to dismounting.

Please note the dirt on the reset odo pusher and the clock pusher.
