rear wheel bearing change!...fell at first hurdle.....

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Hope someone out there can help me. Looks like a rear wheel bearing is failing on my 02 plate fabby. Being brave (and skint!) and going to change it myself. However ive failed miserably because I cant get get the screw that holds the rear drum in place out! Ive tried wd40, a hammer, a cordless, shouting at it, prayer....everything but its just stuck and the screw head is becoming damaged. My question is does anyone know the screw size for this so i can just use a screw extractor set and replace with a new screw? I live a few miles from any hardware stores so i want to have the part in before i take the bleedin' thing out and am stranded!

Whilst on the subject, if anyone has a decent step by step guide for changing a rear bearing it would be most appreciated, biggest thing is what size socket will i need to remove the securing screw and what is the best way to tap a new bearing in place.

Many thanks in advance

john

Pretty sure you need a bench press to get the bearing in & out of the hub.

BTW your in the Octavia section, you need to post in the Fabia section in future.

You need an impact driver for the screw.

Are you replacing the complete hub? Far easier if you are.
