Call me stupid but I can't get my fuel cap off. I insert my key turn right so it spins and it just spins. It doesnt unscrew. What am I doing wrong???

Turn Key round to stop. Remove key then remove cap. when done , screw cap back on and turn key to stop the other way.

Hold the cap, turn the key anti clockwise, unscrew the cap.

Refitting screw on the cap until it tightens turn key clockwise remove key and cap will just spin if anyone tries to remove it.

I did exactly the same! The first time I filled my citigo, I was stood on the forecourt for about 10 mins before I finally got the cap off! I thought there was something wrong with it, but it was just me being stupid and impatient!

It's an easy mistake to make.

My daughter did exactly the same.

It seems the cars come with the cap unlocked.

When you go to fill up for the first time we assume the cap is locked to start with so we actually lock it.

old thread... but i just stood at a petrol station at 4am for 15 mins trying to get the cap off, my gf tried and so did my mate. I ended up driving off with the fuel light on.

glad i saw this thread, I was about to call the dealer! Never would have cinsidered that when the cap is loose it is locked!

it opened no problem on the day i bought the car lol

I had the same problem. A chap on the forecourt came to my rescue, but did not explain how to unlock it. I finally fell in, but it was so tight to unscrew I thought it would break if I forced it.

Got it unlocking. Was just me being stupid

I remember trying it for the first time, I think I was stood there for a solid 5 minutes looking like a complete idiot
