engine will still be tight still. I was getting that to begin with but after 10,000 it really begins to loosen up. On a long run i could easily get high 40s low 50s.

I managed 43mpg in my new motor (Octavia VRS TSI) yesterday and that was with bad traffic on M1 too

It will be annoying at first seeing the petrol disappear, mine was like that, but once a week I make the 75mile trip up to Essex and each week it got better. 35mpg average, 36mpg, etc. Try enjoy driving it how you normally would and it should get better. I've done 17500miles now but from about 9000-10,000m it's been fine. Happily get 43-46mpg on the mostly motorway trip to Essex.

I agree with Dirty Hari. When mine got over the 10,000 mile mark the MPG was in the 40s. Now i have a new engine im getting low thirtys again.

That's another reason why I changed mine - gone for a 1.2 tsi 105 rapid.

meh.

How on earth!! Lol

I did 300 mile trip Thursday to Coventry and back to Kent averaged 45mpg.

Stick with it. Lowest I get on my 20 mile commute through Wigan and Warrington is 33mpg if I drive it hard, normal is 38-45mpg depending on traffic.

I've done 17.6k, I think your engine is just too young.

28k on mine and managed an easy 45mpg on the m6 to Keswick a couple of weeks ago. Steady cruise at 75mph. Very pleased shame the wife stuck it into the back of a Clio in the snow last week :(

Waiting to be patched up now.

It is a good feeling when your getting a good economy, and not even trying,

sometimes that faster speed returns the best mpg.

wish i'd took a photo of the short trip i made a while back, 9 mpg lol

I can get that, or often an indicated 11 mpg, start the car, leave it sitting to defrost a few minutes do a short journey, stop at lights

a few times.

Not actually used 4.546 litres of petrol for 9 miles or 11 miles even if it indicated that.

Sit with the engine running for a while and it will get to where it shows 0mpg.

It can start at what it was last stopped at and drop and show 25-28 mpg,

and 5 minutes later be showing 40 + mpg.

i am putting £60 vpower every 170 miles?

Is there something wrong with the car?

19 miles averaged to the gallon for 8 3/4 gallons is just amazingly bad.

(@151 pence a litre)

Is it all stop/start or being done flat out?

I do not know i can do a 1/4 of a tank and average 45mpg. trip to work 20/ 30 mph and about 1/4 mile 50mph then 20/30mpg stop/start And oil not used any since 3000 miles still the same top of hash on dip stick now done 4000

Do you drive mostly with it in 'D' or are you changing manually all the time?

do not go out of (D) tried paddles got confused when turning geared down instead of up you know wot i mean tried triptronic that silly

Love the car (GETTING UPSET)

I just drive in 'D', and stay off the brakes, back to 'S' or across to manual for down changes

& back to 'D' for all up shifts.

You can improve the MPG by 5-10 mpg on the same trip and i do the same trips regularly so easy enough to check.

Correct tyre pressures and rear weights and spare wheel removed. (Tyre weld carried.)

Saves fuel,

to be there when you want to use it up going faster, i do not mind getting 22 mpg when knocking on,

but on any normal speed commutes or journeys over 5 miles its just not on to get less than 20mpg..

I'm getting 300-350 out of a tank

£60 every 170 miles suggests something is wrong with the fuelling and suggests a very low MPG figure.

Heck, my 3.7 litre non turbo V8 Audi with 260BHP easily achieves a mpg figure of 32 mpg (calculated, not computer) on a long run but around town its down in the low teens.

I'm getting 300-350 out of a tank

I am managing 500 miles out of a tank but then I am over-filing using the expanasion area. On long runs low 40s is quite easy when keep a good pace. Have managed over 50 mpg when ultra trying. I think the quoted combined of 46 mpg is reasonable but not how the car should be used so nice cruise and occasional blast to show up a 2 litre wiesel brightens the journey.

Occasional free wheel down long hills, standard burn and cruise stuff, happy days. More to extend the range rather than cost, use Tesco Momentum which is fairly cheap and seems OK. Have seen 600 miles as a total between miles travelled plus mile to go but it is just too far and too long not to floor it for a while as temptation wins.
