Interface & Non-Interface engines

Featured Replies

I've been looking into timing belts within a car.

There is a difference between interface and non-interface engines which I understand, but I want to know how to identify them. Most people suggests Gates, and using their manual which lists interface Vs Non-interface engines but there is no skokda engines lisited, even though they do supply timing belt kits for the engines.

Is there a website for UK models of cars and is there a way to work out if the engine is interface or non-interface. I am mainly interest in the 1.9 TDI Engine(Non-PD).

Thanks

Do you mean interference and non interference? As in if the belt goes pop so does the engine on an 'interference' engine and vice versa on a 'non interference' engine.

I believe almost all modern engines are interference type, certainly the 1.9 vag tdi's are, both PD and injection pump.

I'd be amazed if you found a diesel that wasn't interference as the compression ratio is too high to easily (Read Cheaply) allow otherwise.
