Rapid Puncture - TPM not worked.

Featured Replies

VRs estate 2010 Mk2, ran over debris in road, felt tyre deflating, nothing on dash, pull into 1st layby, greeted by smell of burning rubber but never warned anything wrong by TPM, experience told me flat due to feeling through steering.

And yes you can guess too that repair kit useless it just ****ed out all over layby, call to RAC later, and VRs ends up at destination on back of tow truck.

2 new Goodyears later and the TPM comes on wanting to be reset as had new tyres!! - it even says in handbook that should warn of rapid deflation not slow punctures.

Now got spare wheel kit on order....no more repair kits for me

Same happened to me in my 2011 vRS on the A63. Rapid blow out. Wasn't sure at first, no noise of blowout or TPM warning.

But same as you, it didn't feel right. Pulled over and big chunck out of the sidewall, tyre naffed.

Fortunately I had a spare. Put in on and the TPM chimed 50 yards down the road. Useless.

Exactly what I had, when I swapped fronts to rear few months ago, chimed for reset, and again on Saturday, 50 yards down road when new on, chimes and lights on dash for the reset but when needed it most nothing, 50 mph when hit what turned out to be a lorry racquet strap buckle, and nothing even though repair kit wouldn't inflate tyre. The system is flawed.

Still can't believe spare tyres are not mandatory.

I swapped my car 8 weeks ago, first thing I checked before the test drive was that it had a spare. :)

we learn by our mistakes, I couldn't believe when I thought id take damaged wheel off and head off into town in taxi to get fixed, id find no jack or wheel brace either, to be honest I knew had repair kit and compressor and locking wheel nut but never spotted no jack. From now on whatever car I get I will insist on spare wheel and jack,

I wonder if the TPM not kicking in suggests a faulty ABS sensor or similar as mine detected a slow puncture after a few psi drop?

+1 on the spare and jack, surely it shouldn't be considered safe to be without?

I got absolutely slated on here when I said I personally didn't rate them because of the numerous stories about poor performance of that bit of kit.

Nice to be vindicated somewhat!

TPM is useless.

Had 2 punctures and its never warned me....noticed from feel of vehicle that it was totally flat.

Changed my wheels over again last weekend back to winters and 80miles later......bing.....check tyre pressures....

I had a puncture a couple of months back, without the TPM i probably wouldnt have even noticed until the next day as it happened on my way home. When I got out to check all 4 tyres looked fully inflated, upon looking closer I could hear the air hissing out of the off side rear which had a screw right in the centre. Thankfully mine has a spare.

Wrote off the Front Wheel on my Blackline a couple of weeks ago (a new wheel is £263 in case your interested). Holed one tyre, completely flat. Nothing showed on the dash at all and no chimes. A load of rubbish in this situation.

Boo!.

My TPM came on last night.....first time ever (had the car 5 months). Changed the tyres all round 2 weeks ago or so, came on last night....checked tyres - no probelms noted, pressures fine. Reset......and now it stays off........

TPM worked for me. Slow puncture when I took it out of the garage, hadn't noticed until I drove away when "bong" the light came on.

Certainly worth it in my book.

Oh, and I decided a spare was worth the extra when I ordered the car.

since owning my BL i haven't checked the tyre pressures - doh!

need to do this today i think then reset the the TPM!

also need to order me a spare wheel kit

when you fit the spare wheel in doe sit still have space for the tyre inflater thing too?

With the spare wheel in place there's just room for the tool kit tray to sit on top. Not much room for anything else I'm afraid.
