Time to call it a day....

Featured Replies

hi all,

after watching the forums over the last few months it seems some fabia vRS owners in particular seem to be pushing the the boundaries of stupidity.

im just expressing an opinion and not meaning to offend or single anyone out.

i keep reading, ive beaten a BMW 330, 535, audi 3ltr etc etc etc.

it seem some of them are going to more extreme and dangerous lengths to claim such a victory. afterall if i was driving a 911 turbo on the public roads, yes a fabia owner could beat me if they wanted to drive stupidly enough :thumbdwn:

am i wrong, just looks like the forum might head the wrong way if it continues.

again just my opinion

When I read some of these types of post, I tend to think there may be some fishermans tale here ( ooh it was this big <------------------> , but you should have seen the 1 that got away ).

i tend to take some of these with a pinch of salt ( & vinegar) , just read and not respond, otherwise it encourages the thread.

:iagree: I wouldn't say its heading in any dangerous direction, but it does seems some do like their cars so much that an element of exaggeration comes into play. I adore my car but you won't see me posting about beating quicker machinery. Its usually because I know they're "cruising". :)

Don't wanna see you go Kenny. Do what I do and reach into the cupboard, grab the baking "box" and use two fingers to lift out a bit of salt. ;)

(hmmm, scary - two mentions of salt... )

don't go mate, things will settle and people see sense :)

Totally agree with you 100%...

In all honesty, who gives a sh!t what car can 'beat' the other, it will all seem irrelevant when you you are involved in, or cause a fatal accident, maybe thats the thrill  I joined this site initially because I thought it was an 'adult' forum where driving like a pr!ck and bragging about it wasn't seen as clever......how wrong one can be. :thumbdwn:

Anyway must dash, gotta fulfill my sad existence by seeing how many types of cars I can race.

Maybe we could re-name this site Brisaxo.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It'll be MaxSkoda before long! I think in the real world, 99% of us drive safely and "normally"

And before anyone says, NO, I am NOT in the 1% :finger::D

MaxSkoda....now THAT i like

I know i'm still new here, but from what i've seen so far, i agree with you guys 100%. I bought my Fabia for a few reasons, excellent MPG, low insurance group, and a big enough boot for my minimoto. The stories of impossible victories i read on here wasn't one of them.

You've got to wonder what goes through the minds of these people. I've only just read a thread where someone was boasting about blocking a Cooper S out on the other side of the road with a truck coming straight at it. WHY? Do you really have to prove your car is faster so much that it's worth risking someone else's life over it? You may well have thought it was perfectly safe, that there was plenty of room, and that he could always just slam the anchors on and tuck in behind you. Think about this though : It's the accident that you don't see coming that will get you.

Errm, that was me and it's not really a case of bragging so to speak, as with so many thing's if you where there you would have seen that all was done in relative safety. Please read the entire thread.

So ... minimoto?? What have you got? I just sold a thumpstar mini bike in "mini" supermoto trim.

i know your reply was aimed at Alan M but i just want to say i am in no way singling anyone out here and im sure others are not either. its just been a case that over the last few monthsits been getting worse and worse.

Everyone has their traffic light grand prix but come on stop this all before it becomes really stupid.

if it wasn't a bragging thread, i beat a cooper S then what was it?? look how i nearly caused an accident?

Its quite a shame really, to think that the site has been built up so much to a point where even dealers pay attention to what goes on in here and to have this put in jeopardy by some shall we say chavtastic nonsence, i'd like to see more of the forums put under freedom to stop those unwilling to pay restricted in there opinion.

Either that or we trade in the vRS's and get 1.2s!!!!!!!!

Surelly that would only start a new craze of my 1.2 is faster than your scooter!

Kenny, FFS don't disappear. I'll have no-one to reminisce (sp) about the glory days of Mk2 ownership :(

Seriously though. I've resisted thus far getting drawn into these sorts of discussions but I tell you something I find it bloody embarrassing sometimes some of the sh**e spouted of late regarding supposed Fabia vRS 'kills'. I know it seems like I'm having a dig at Fabia owners but the owners of the afore-mentioned do seem to demonstarte more of the stereo-typical 'boy racer' tendencies and have a need to 'shout' about it.

Mods. Can we put an automatic ban on threads along these lines from now on as it's all becoming somewhat tedious.

or.... add a new "forum topic" - and if you dont wanna read / reply - then dont! if u do want to reply to it, then please do!

i dont condone the boy racer - but this after all a CAR forum, and is bound to have the odd hand full of chavs! so if "they" wanna talk about the fact that they can beat a bmw M5 0-60 - let them do it!

You and the rest of us should ignore it and let them get on with it.... freedom of speech etc!

I'm with you on this Kenny, the road is not the place to have fun as some seem to think. At one time or another we've all been p**sed off by others, best thing to do is make room and let them by. At least you'll be going home without the box.

If people want to try their cars do it on the track. Let the idiots by and Gloat when your 3 feet behind them at the next junction.

To be honest it's not just briskoda.

I've noticed the same trend on scoobynet and alfaowner.

Motoring forums used to be about enthusiasts sharing information and organising meets and track days etc.

Now across all most motoring forums there seems to be a dumbing down of content and usefull posts. The old style helpfull or humorous threads are being replaced with the mine is bigger/faster threads or a I beat a Ferrari in a 30 limit type of thread.

With broadband and cheap internet has come a new type of poster, those who perhaps wouldn't have spent time on motoring forums when the internet cost £30 a month and 3p a minute for 33.6K dial up can know spend time posting absolute tosh. ;):)

Cheers

Lee

Why should this forum make speacial allowances? If a minority of people want to discuss such matters then find a like minded 'cruise' type forum that may be more accomodating.

We have a forum for chavs... its called the Fabia forum...

True the Fabia forum has lost it's way since the Techie thing, maybe Colin could put a new heading in the " Hit the road" area, titled mines faster, then it won't clutter other useful areas.

Unfortunately Paul it's called Briskoda.net ....................

I own a fabia, i didnt buy it because of its speed, i bought it because its a vw at heart and does 50mpg and costs a few grand less, at the end of the day its a good car. Its not the car its the driver behind the wheel, lets not tar all fabia drivers with the same brush!

Maybe skoda should bring out a new fabia, the Chavia!!!!

yeah it is a car forum but when did CAR FORUM = STUPID MINDLESS DRIVING?

i understand the freedom of speech point and really if i dont like some things i shouldnt read them, but i have been a member of briskoda for some time and this "i beat this" etc isnt what briskoda is all about :(

Ditto Kenny .................but it is now ........... :thumbdwn:

I can't beleive the fact people see the road as a race track

Its a road for getting from A to B, and on weekend C to D, then back to A.

Leave the racing for a track, then see how your car compares to other's.
