Shell Fuel Save - Engine Management Light

Featured Replies

Only had my Octy VRS a month or so and put some Shell Fuel Save in the weekend to compare it with the V Power, been running fine all week and only my way home from work this evening the engine management light came on.

Anyone had any similar issues with Shell 95 RON fuel, the car seems to be running fine.

If the EML light is on then you should get the car scanned to read the logged fault code.

There are plenty of people on here running their vRS's on 95 RON.

It does sound a little coincidental though?

Yeah thats what I thought, had a quote from Skoda for £78 for a hour's inspection on the car including a full diagnostic.

Could do without the hasstle.

I would imagine it is a coincidence.

It could be a coil pack on the way out or a lambda sensor.

See if anyone local has vcds or a fault code reader.

Give the skoda garage a call and see if it ever got called in for new coil packs as that could rule one thing out and they are free of charge if part of the warranty recall.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

Where are you based?

In Liverpool, had a listen to the engine their it does sound a little "tickey or tinney" are they a fair bit louder than the old 1.8t models?

Might be able to get the codes read in work.

Had a MK1 VRS and the coil packs went on that but it was abvious their was no power.

highly unlikely to be related to fuel selection.

you need it scanning really

As previous have mentioned get it scanned. They do suffer with EVAP problems when owners brim the tank. may be coincidence since you've not had it for long...

OK well got the codes read today, but the Engine Management Light went out when i took the car round to be tested.

The following codes came up, any help converting them into Engligh would be welcome.

1. 08801 - P2261 Recirculations vale for turbocharger- N249: mechanical malfunction

2. 12599 - P3137 Intake manifold runner control (IMRC) basic setting not carried out

3. 01602 - P0602 Sensor reference voltage A circuit: low

4. 12600 - P3138 Intake manifold runner control (IMRC): deviation.

Like i said any help would be appreciated, if any has approximate costs even better.

Hopeing I can keep my platinum card in my wallet

You own a platinum card and name dropped it, so have to pay.

Sorry :p

I'd suggest checking the state of charge of your battery and also the condition of your diverter valve.

Ideally, what you'd do is clear them, then when it comes on again see which came back.

Hahhaha was just generalising

Battery is less than 12 months old but will check, you suggesting it could be the alternator?

Diverter valve, is that the dump valve? If so where is it located on the TFSI?

Codes were cleared, as it stated before the engine light went before the codes were even read which is quite strange

The DV in under the car on yours. It's a jack up and 3 bolts to change. Lots easier to get a garage to do it on a ramp.

The intake manifold runner is a common failure. I had mine go and it threw up the CEL light and went into limp. Its a sticky flap, but the whole unit needs replacing. It's not cheap. Sorry :(

Cheers will start with the DV the weekend and see if i can sort that.

Might let Skoada take a butchers for the rest and see what they come with, have deleted old codes so ill see what happens.

Is the intake manifold runner an intermitant problem? the car seems to be running fine (famous last words)

Mine was intermittent. It's a sticky flap.

Whether its coincidence or not, 99% of the time I fill up with V-Power. I was on fumes towards the end of last summer so had to fill up at Asda and the following day the engine management light came on. Garage cleared the error and it didn't come back so I'd guess there is a link between 'good' and 'bad' fuel...

Spoke to Skoda and there is an outstanding recall on the coil packs, so i have booked it in for saturday and will ask them to check on the noise thats coming from the engine (around the DV) sounds a bit like air escaping, so they sould do me a diagnostic for free. At least they will give me a list of thing s that need doing and i will go from there.

Where is the best place to go for a DV, would aftermarket be best.

Dont get an aftermarket one. Get a revision D or revision G.

Good news on the coil packs.

You own a platinum card and name dropped it, so have to pay.

Sorry :p

Capital one killed the platinum card over five years ago when they started offering it to anyone with income over 10k. Black's where it's at now apparently - but I'm pretty sure Santander give that colour out quite freely :(

Ah maybe that explains why Tesco replaced my Platinum card with a black one. I had wondered why my new Platinum card was black.

hahah spell check needed. Actually found a Skoda geuine part of ebay new for £36.00.

Car going into dealer tomorrow to check make sure everything else is ok.

I've took some stick on this forum this week :)

OK so here is the news.

1. Ignition Coils all changed on the recall ... bonus

2. Engine was making a bit of noise like air was escaping from somewhere, thought it was a bit noisey aswell. Diagnostic was run and there was a stored fault code, Turbo solenoid valve, however when it was tested its working fine. When i turn off the ignition there is a bit of a squeek, they have put that down to the same problem but its working fine.

3, The air noise they said is the engine cover, aparantly there is a bit snapped of around the back on the air intake, I am not sure it would have been that loud but thats what they said it is.

Other than that its tip top.

Q1. Is the part ive ordered (see below) nothing to do with the solenoid valve? Or does Skoda just have access to all the right kit and all the errors in my first post probably just old temporary faults.

PS Any one have a FSI engine cover for sale, or know where i can get one, not paying the £175.00 quoted at the dealer for a bit of plastic.

Thanks for all the help, great forum.

Total cost £65.00 and free ignotiion coils and valet :)

There is one on eBay for £100

Search with 2.0tfsi engine cover

Glad its getting sorted.

The part is correct and it won't hurt to change it for peace of mind.
