Simple budget mods?

Featured Replies

What's the best modifications you guys have done to your fabias that haven't cost a lot of money?

So far I have,

Done the elephant mod

Fitted a Lcr splitter

Fitted the lupo cup holders

And I'm about to remove the bump strips on the side of the car if the weather gets better :)

Pictures would be ideal :) along with a rough price estimate

i was thinking of doing a post like this the other day.

yer debump strip is a good one.

you done your chrome grill black/colour coded?

A remap

I do 500 miles per week, is a remap, egr delete and elephant mod worth my while?

Remap on any turbo engine without a doubt from a fun perspective.

Yeah the car already came with the grill surround painted

Remap is the best bang for buck mod, if you go to blacksmoke you can even download maps for around £50 and do it yourself!

Rarb has to be the best mod for a fabia IMO ;)

But this is only available for the ASZ engine, and not the BLT. If you dont know which engine yours has, lift the boot carpet up, and look for a sticker, will either say ASZ or BLT...

Plus, if for any reason the remap doesnt work for the ASZ, for £50, I doubt you have any come back to the supplier as its a DIY mod

You need to do some research, the cost of a legal cable to actually flash it is a hell of a lot more, even the cheap tat you get from eBay is £25ish minimum but you're advocating ripping off the hard work and investment of others and breaking the law. More importantly have a google for reviews of the black smoke maps especially where people have done some logging, I read one that would be enough to put me off buying a map from them or even having it given to me but I guess what you save on the map you can put towards declaring it to the insurance co. and repairs, right?

Don't know much about blacksmoke maps tbh I have a proper custom map on my car from my local tunning shop, just suggested it as the op asked about budget mods.

I guess it depends on your budget really. If you were to go for a map, I'd suggest a reputable forum sponsor who have good experience and therefore good long term reviews such as Shark Performance, Jabbasport or Unit 18 (there are others, but I've had work done at these places and would recommend all of them).

Detailing products are worth a look at if you're interested in that side of things and want to improve the look of the exterior/interior of your car (paintwork etc), or perhaps have someone detail it for you.

One cheap but not wildly exciting mod I can think of is fitting rear mudflaps from Skoda. A little trimming of the bumper lip is required; but they are quite effective, look subtle and cost about £12 from Skoda.

RARB is a good shout, 312mm brakes are another. Phillips Silver Vision indicators are a decent improvement for £10 a pair, both brighter and rids the car of the "egg" appearance of standard lamps.

If it is parts you're after, keep an eye on the classifieds on here for bargains- they do come up occasionally, or eBay. Bigger turbos, intercoolers, clutches and exhausts come up sometimes and can save you a fortune; but they're not cheap to begin with so again it depends on your overall budget.

Happy modding :-)

+1 on detailing products, even a relatively simple combo of good shampoo, polish and hard wax, plus microfibre mitts and the like will be money well spent. If your car is gleaming all the time it'll look 10 times better than most visual mods you pay good money for, and make you smile every time you see it.

You'll also systematically check over the car at the same time and spot things that are amiss before they become issues. I noticed a very light and recent clearcoat scratch on my freshly refurbed alloy that I only spotted from washing the car, a quick degrease and a dab of lacquer and I couldn't even spot it again if I tried

As for more cheap mods, how about setting to your dash bits with some paint/plasti dip/vinyl wrap/flock?

Wtf is the elephant mod?

Wtf is the elephant mod?

Type elephant mod in the search bar, or even elephant mod skoda in to google.

OP, what do you consider a 'budget'? Put a price limit on it, as my 'budget' would be different to someone else.
