Advice re clunking on left side over bumps...vRS Octy

Featured Replies

Hi peeps.....lookin for some advice or similar problems experienced please.

I've had my Octy vRS for about a month now, when I bought it, it came with a new MOT and service.

However, I've noticed when I go over speed ramps or even slight bumps the left hand side in particular makes a sort of clunking sound...for want of a better word!

Is this serious, obviously I will take it back to the dealers if its a problem as its warantied, but dont want to look like a t*t if its something of nothing!!

Could it be bushes, suspension or something????? I dunno:( Any help on this appreciated Paul:)

ARB bushes at an ill-informed guess.

Should be a warranty job, anyway.

Standard suspension? Or has it been replaced? Ive just had KW's fitted to mine and a couple of days later noticed a knocking noise from the NSF- over uneven roads, speed humps and on a right lock.

Turned out to be the cup on top of the stut not seated properly, undone the 21mm nut - reseated the cup- refitted nut with an air tool, sorted.

Just an idea..............

Cheers for the replies so far.....the car is totally standard!!

Is it definitely suspension related or could it be coming from the rear seats?

Drive round with rear seats down if all is silent then wind the rubber stoppers next to the seat fixing posts out half a turn or so.

Only a guess but it worked for me... (mine was a right side clunk over speed bumps etc)

Dog bone mount???

I reported a similar clunk problem a few weeks ago but did not receive any solution. The local dealer suggested that the rear seats were the cause but putting the seats down did not help. The clunk comes from rear left side when I go over a bump (actually when the rear wheels are coming off the bump). My Octy vRS is new and has done just 3000kms. Can anyone guide me how to be certain its not the ARB? Do I try taking sharp turns at speed and hear for the same clunk?

Dad had this.... was bushes and ARB

Noise is defo from front left side and not the rear...It's even noticable at slow speeds. Its very noticable at times but its not there all the time.....Sods law states that I'll book it in to be checked and they cant hear it!!!!

Think I'll book it in all the same tho.

Exactly the same as mine, noise comes and goes and is noticable at slow speeds, seems worse when first driving the car and when cold.

I'm convinced it's the common anti-roll bar bush issue. Local taxi drivers have the same problems and it's probably due to all the bloody road humps.

My car has been in the dealers twice but they can't find anything wrong and it never does it on the road test. They say the bushes are that tight anyway they can't tell if they are gone using the old bar method.

Cheers

I have that noise coming from the rear drivers side. Not sure if it is the seats or the suspension. Again happens more when first starting the car and when cold.

Dealer was clueless when I brought it up.

If anybody finds out what it is it will be good to know.

Regards

I'd put money on the arb link, rather than the bush.

Links for knocking

Bushes for squeaking

My vRS has developed this within the last week.

Did you get yours sorted.

Do ineed to book mine on or just wait unti lits next serviced.

Will the work be covered by warranty?

Sorry I havent booked it in yet!! Not had time....It should be covered under warranty regardless. I bought mine second hand and got 6 months dealer warranty parts and labour....Incidentally I found this noise irritating today as it was worse in todays heat....It's got to be a top priority job for me, me thinks!!!

we had all our bushes and ARB replaced on the octy due to this, under warrantie, was quick job (couple of hours).

Dealer blames it on speed humps, damn things :thumbdwn:

Just to say I had my car at the stealers for the vRS to be looked at re this clunking.....Turns out that it was the ARB bushes had worn...not majorly but enough.

Surprise surprise, when it was road tested they found sod all!!! but changed them never the less....I dont know if I was just glad to get it back...but it feels much firmer at the front end now..and..so far no clunks as yet either.....Solved now hopefully....many thanks for all replies and input....Paul:)

The local dealer in Sheffield reckon that ARB bushes wear out really easily if you live in an area whre there are loads of speed bumps or pot holes. My FNS spring broke recently after 30K miles and they blamed the roads, the buggers!

The Isle Of Wight is notorious for its bad bumpy roads..and Yes there are loads of traffic calming areas everywhere!!!...so could well be that
