Hi,

a prospective new owner here doing some research. Thinking of getting an Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG Elegance with Xenon's, curtain airbags, active head rests and a couple of other small extras.

I drove the 1.9 TDI DSG and thought it was amazing. The gearbox made the car feel so much quicker than it actually is. So I can only imagine what the 2.0 TDI will feel like with the DSG.

Logging on here to work out the ups and downs of owning a DSG 'boxed car.

Welcome to Briskoda. :wavey:

Paying for it seems to be the only downside!!!

I'd imagine the clutches will be very expensive to replace but that shouldn't be a problem for a good long while as each one should only get half the wear as a normal clutch.

Hi and welcome from Cork

Welcome  I've sent you a PM

Welcome to Briskoda!

The new Octavia is a nice piece of kit, especially with the DSG gearbox. You mentioned a few little extras? Comon spill the beans!

well the few extras will be safety things like the curtain airbags and active head restraints. Things like that should bring the car closer to a 5 star rating.

I'm concerned about the lowered suspension that comes with the 17" wheels. I don't want a harsh ride and fear this will give it.

Welcome.

Its not too harsh (just avoid potholes), just ask any of the current RS owners what their suspension is like and it will give a good indication

I was fearing the lowered Fabia vRS would be too harsh for SWMBO to accept it. But it's less harsh than the Rover 100 it replaced by a long shot, and although the Citroen ZX 1.4i was more forgiving, I'd say overall I'd prefer the balance of the Furby.

The Octy needs firmer suspension than on the base model imho, as it felt a little 'loose' when cornering due to it's large boot. The vRS suspension should help a fair bit with that I would have thought (still need to drive one, some time :D )
