Are all Fabia vRS's Noisy when cold?

Featured Replies

Now you know why soundproofing is worth doing - the engine is not the problem, it's the road-noise caused by the low-profile tyres ;)

Couldn't agree more. Waiting for Steve @ Noisekiller to get back to me with a price for the Fabia kit minus the barrier mat. If not I'll buy the whole kit to fit it myself...

I'm gonna try and get a video recording done of my fabia revving and accelerating tonight, and you guys tell me what you thihnk..? :D

I think it's ... erm ... a good idea - you enjoy yourself ;)

Or do you want us to tell you what we think of the sound?

Chris

I guess you guys haven't heard the 1.4 tdi engine :D

If you have the possibility to plug in a Kenlowe Hotstart 20 min prior to starting the engine, you do both yourself and the engine a lot of good.

The decrease in engine noise at start is tremendeous.

Yours is petrol engined though. No diesel clatter.

I agree. When I had the HotStart on my Furby vRS it was actually quite civilised first thing in the morning. Making sure that the oil level is up to (but NOT beyond) the max quietens it down, too.

listen to an old diesel and then say it's not quiet!

Too bloody right! My old J plate Citroen ZX 1.9 sounded like a tractor. A strangely satisfying burble I thought.

PS anyone know what BHP old citroen diesels were? Always wondered - it was so so so slow - 0-60 in about 25 seconds!

I had an 306 D Turbo which had the turbo version of the same engine. My Dad kept whinging about the noise it made when I was out early at 6am for work and it woke him up! The TDI is a lot quieter but still a wee bit tractor like when cold.

I know what you mean about the XUD burble being rather satisfying. There was what I can only describe as a bassy rattle that sounded kinda good but can't quite put my finger on why. The XUD was about 67bhp IIRC without turbo, 90bhp with. 25 seconds, cripes! - the 306DT did it in about 11.

I've ordered the SEAT foam engine surround, so I'll let you know what I think when it arrives.

You know it's supposed to sound like that, loud and clear, don't be ashamed of it :D Isn't it just better when people think "bah it's just a diesel" by the sound of it and then be left coughing in your smoke trail :) If you wanted a comfortable cruiser then you'd be buying something else, right? ;)

Anyway admittedly the road-noise from tyres is a problem as it drowns out the engine roaring. :(

Nope - bought it as a comfortable cruiser with decent performance myself ;)

The Green Filter & PD160 air intake do make the engine more audible at higher revs, but in a nicer way than the rattle junk at low temps.

I don't consider the Furby 'std' to be a hot hatch, although you can have a laugh in it. This is why I added a bunch of stuff to make it more refined for normal driving. Soundproofing is definitely one of those things.

If I can manage to save enough and I can get the insurance renewed with a mod-friendly dealer, I'll do so. Will have a UK photolicense by then as well, which will really help me get a better deal anyway as some insurers won't touch me just coz I've still got my Dutch (Euro) license.

Road-noise drowns everything out when it's a bad road, and there isn't all that much you can do about that with low-profile tyres, unfortunately.
