Daft question? Not as much smoke

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope your all well. This is my first post for a long long time, but I've been a lurker for a while.

This may seem like a daft question, but it's confusing me. I have a 2004 fabia vrs with the asz engine.

I had it remapped by jabbasport about 4 years ago, just the generic map. I also had a green cotton air filter too. I service it every year, with new fuel filter etc, and also change the oil and filter every 6 months. Now up until recently, when i put my foot down a bit, i used to get a small but noticeable chuff of black smoke out the back, which is obviously normal. But just recently I've noticed it getting less and less, and now there is hardly any smoke at all.

Is this something that I should worry about? I'm not sure if it's lost any power, as i hardly drive it. 43000 miles.

Thanks for any info

Dan.

Mine hardly smokes at all on a shark map :D it's all good if you ask me!

Possibly the vnt mechanism on the turbo was a bit sticky! And after hoofing it around you've cleaned it out a little!

Mine hardly smokes but commuting to and from work (6 miles round trip) doesn't do it any favours. After a good run it seems to clear out.

I have exactly the same engine and year and the same thing, virtual zero smoke now. When it did smoke it was under load in high gears but it felt right and pulled hard. Now there is no smoke it does not pull as well up the revs. Need more input from others, what would stop a remapped vrs from producing black smoke under load at high rpm, i'm sure there is more to this.

This may sound silly to some, but can it lose its map? The car sat for about 4 weeks over wwinter, and when I came to it there was no power in the battery at all.

I doubt it, never heard of a car losing its map.

No it wont lose its map that is not the issue. It will have just relearnt the ecu values when you got power back and drove it.

The edc 15 isn't really a learning ecu, a lot of petrols ecu with ignition timing etc but not on our cars.
