LOL! Technical hitches already. HEEEELP

Featured Replies

Yep -technical hitches... Here they are. Need a little help with them please.

Firstly, the vRS gearbox is an INVERTED 5 speed, which means second is where first is, or something like that - I can see reverse going in different with the two engines side by side. :( SO, I know this means I need the stick and gearbox linkages from the donor car. On the phone in the morning then.

Secondly, the 5 speed box appears to have a speed sensor fitting, but the 6 speed box has no speed sensor fitting AT ALL... Whats that all about then?

Well, actually those are the only hitches at the moment. It seems my vRS dogbone mount is IDENTICAL to the old one too, so may not change it...

Oh well. :o Guess this is one of those hitches eh? :thumbdwn:

You wouldn't enjoy it so much if you didn't have problems Jason

Why do you need the cables etc? They only operate back and forwards and sisde to side dont they? The gate is in the gearbox not the lever.

IIRC speedo on the six speed is picked up through the abs circuit (I wil check this) and your using the vRS dash insert so may require a bit of wiring.

You've two engines side by side

OUTside the car. ;) Thanks Lummox! A "bit of wiring" won't be an issue I should think. :o Also, the linkage's are in a different place on the box too - the five speed one sort of points a different way too, so the fice speed cables don't actually meet the six speed gear linkage. :D So, I need those gear cables from the donor either way.

:rofl: you don't do things by half do you Jase!

I dont quite get it - are you trying to use the 5 speed box on the new engine?

Maybe he was, or he thought it would be a simple, straight swap of the entire running gear.

Jason, I wonder if you need the whole wiring loom from the donor car.

or maybe the whole car and paint it silver?

I can see more votes for the "flintstones style" option in my poll coming in soon

I reckon it'll be aa good laugh reading transcripts of his conversations with insurance companies ;)

That was my choice :D :D

I also found out today that the system used to secure the linkage is also different at the gearbox end of things, so there's no two ways about it, its new gear linkage cables, or bust.

ABS sensor will be on the new hubs I'm fitting right? :D;)

Tomorrow the new hubs & driveshafts will be popping in, and little things like the dashpod will be swapped, ECU swapped. Then I just have to wait. :(

Jason whenever I'm feeling a little down at work I can always rely on your post to chear me up.

Very appropriate :P

SORTED! :D

I'll have linkages & gearstick from donor car by Tuesday! onwards & upwards!

Could do with a good techie answer on the speedo sensor though... ETKA show anything?

Dunno how much they are but would it be worth investing in the revised cables as you are at this stage??

Why don't you just buy a vRS and then take out the seats and replace them with "standard ones" and remove the bodykit etc - would be easier ;)

 Bloody might be

Had to order a new complete hub this afternoon anyway! As mate said it was not really in good condition at all. I'm guessing it took a knock in the accident. :o

Also having to order a new set of track rod ends and to be safe, new exhaust manifold gasket, and flywheel bolts. :)

Edit: Cables will be with me Monday. Not a bad price either considerng they had to remove them -

I think I might have to start a new poll "how much will Jason end up spending" :D:thumbup:

enough for both a fabia vRS and a octy vRS at this rate
