So is it now going to be made available in the uk?! I'll be ordering a mk3 estate towards the end of the year, the 4x4 version In combination with the 1.8tsi would be ideal for me. :)

Who knows Lee. The one thing everyone would want of course would be the one thing the secretaries that run SUK won't configure for our market. They are more interested in what colour to print the brochure front cover in and how many mistakes they can have in it (intentionally of course) than offering a product we might want. :no:

Released in the Uk in June and available in 1.6CR 105bhp, 2.0CR 150bhp and 1.8TFSi 180bhp versions - but sadly only in SE trim level!

Well at least it is available!!

Has anyone gone and priced up a new Octi estate?! Bloody hell they are expensive! And stuff like Bluetooth and Bi-Xenons are OPTIONS on the Elegance spec. A like for like 2,0 TDI DSG with sunroof, park assist, cornering fogs, etc to match my Yeti's spec is over £30,000!!! And that is BEFORE you add the Scout option OR 4x4 (when that arrives). Yikes. Makes an Elegance Yeti or an L&K seem even more amazing value.

Yep, I specced my ideal spec to almost spot on 30k but its a bigger car that actually feels pretty light on its feet. Potentially it could make a better long distance cruiser and it has that enormous boot - two important things for me and the family. :)

It's the enormous boot I'm after too. :rofl: The Yeti's is really just too small. And I hate packing vertically so that I can't see out my internal rearview mirror. A roof box and/or trailer solves this problem of course but all in all an Octavia Estate means no roof box or trailer and FAR, FAR, FAR better fuel economy. But what counts most against the Octavia though is that it is a taxi. They are just so common versus the scarceness of the Yeti. :think:

:rofl: I know what you mean. I'm looking to get a new car and trying to do a lot of reading here in the forums to decide. The Yeti is very, very tempting but because of the secretaries I can't quite get what I want in the UK. I have read somewhere on the forums that the Yeti has a quieter cabin/ride than the Octavia -- do you agree with that? Might it change with the new Octavia...? I have a family but not a huge one so could probably get by with the Octy hatch -- so for me the choice between Octy and Yeti is not so much about the boot but about quiet motorway driving and getting the right combination of DSG (which is a must) and engine.

The Yeti is quieter in the cabin than my previous Mk2 VRS (petrol) estate. The new Octavia 3 is quieter than the Yeti though! Ive driven a few now and I think they'd make a good long distance companion.

You cant have a spec that has the same equipment across different segments. ie the Fabia elegance would never get the Columbus like the Superb Elegance does as the Fabia would simply cost to much and wouldnt sell. Price up an equivalent size Audi A4 avant (which is still utilising the older platform) and see what price that comes out at! ;) Then again, some of use have spent £28,600 on a Yeti so upgrading to the bigger, quieter Octavia 3 its not really a million miles away.

The Yeti is 'different', well-equipped and economical for its price, easy to park (and garage) compared with almost any other 4x4, and a joy to drive. If I needed a load-carrier again, I'd almost certainly go for another Octy Scout (or even a 4x4 Superb estate) and while price would obviously come into consideration, as I said at the outset it's only one part of the equation.

Furthermore that thing is just WAY too narrow for its length thus looking more like a chipolata than a Cumberland. :giggle:

Very much my thinking on all points! I thought it was just me re the width of the Superb! Its one of the big things I realised a couple of weekends ago when I jumped out of the Yeti and too the Octy 3 for a test drive.... and then a Rapid! Rapid - not much elbow room/cabin width, Octavia - lots or width. Im not sure of the measurements but it felt more spacious than the Superb I last went in. Same withthe Fabia actually. Even though its small, its too upright/narrow for me, aesthetically!

I'm with you here AlleyCat. If an Elegance Yeti has leather seats, Bluetooth, cornering fog lamps and bi-xenon lights I expect an Octavia or Superb Elegance to have the same. Yet NONE of those things are standard on an Elegance Octavia! I mean even the most basic Fiesta these days have Bluetooth as standard. And as we all know resale value is far better on a standard car with all the goodies included than on a car that had all the goodies added as options. Hence the Yeti L&K being such good value.

On the Octavia Scout it was even worse as that didn't even have an Elegance spec level! So even the few things that level added on the normal Octavia had to be added to the Scout to begin with, making it a really bad financial choice to buy, if you like your goodies... (which alas I do!)

Very true and made even worse in my case by a combination of a badly-informed salesman and me not having done my homework properly so that when I bought a new Octy Scout I forked out for a CD changer as well as the Columbus, not realising that I could put all my music onto the hard disc of the latter! We live and learn. The same salesman, when I went back to swap my Octy Scout for a Yeti told me, without any apparent shame (let alone irony - well out of his league, I guess) that 'You seem to know more about this car than I do.' Too right (and thanks to this site, of course)!

Skoda UK, are IMHO are pricing many traditional customers out of the market; my dad for example has gone back to Merc after a number of Superbs, which he considered to be very good value against both the C and E class as nearly new purchases. However after getting a P/X quote against a new DSG Octy III (Elegance 1.6TDI, I think) he went and bought a 2 year old low mileage one owner E250 Aventgarde auto and saved himself over 2k.

When it's time for me to change the old Monster, based on current prices, then a Rapid or Octy 1.2TSI will be within budget but nothing from Skoda's 4x4 range, if I was considering new rather than used.

One of the major plus points of the whole Skoda range was its perceived excellent "value for money" and attracted a great many customers who were canny with their money.

The salesman I acquired the Berb through, with whom I'd struck up a good rapport, expressed his concerns to me that, with the number of new model, upgraded model launches and associated award wins, Skoda would lose that as they tried to move the marque upmarket in terms of the pure price. I agree with you and your Dad that they are on the verge of alienating a good many potential buyers - if not already doing so.

Maybe so, but don't forget there are also a good deal of new customers coming to Škoda from Audi et al without batting an eye lid. You'll lose some at the bottom and you'll gain some at the top. I can guarantee you Škoda will not be losing sleep about a few shoppers at the bottom of their ranges going to the Dacia shop instead of the Škoda dealer. In fact I'll go so far as to say you will have more sales from canny premium car buyers at the top shopping down, than you do from frugal shoppers at the bottom. So Škoda's strategy is sound in my book.

Under the Elegance section of the new Octavia Estate (that I posted above) Bluetooth is shown as a £180 option. :rofl: As I've said many times before they should really stick to their knitting patterns and doing typing contests in their MK HQ since that lot are useless at doing anything related to cars.
