If we can't get 1,8 DSG Yeti maybe a new 4x4 Octavia 1,8 DSG will do?

Featured Replies

Maybe so, but don't forget there are also a good deal of new customers coming to Škoda from Audi et al without batting an eye lid. You'll lose some at the bottom and you'll gain some at the top. I can guarantee you Škoda will not be losing sleep about a few shoppers at the bottom of their ranges going to the Dacia shop instead of the Škoda dealer. In fact I'll go so far as to say you will have more sales from canny premium car buyers at the top shopping down, than you do from frugal shoppers at the bottom. So Škoda's strategy is sound in my book.

I agree. It's not comforting to 'frugal shoppers at the bottom' - at least, not if they're frugal from necessity rather than choice - but that's the way things are going nowadays.

The secretaries strike again eh?! Under the Elegance section of the new Octavia Estate (that I posted above) Bluetooth is shown as a £180 option. As I've said many times before they should really stick to their knitting patterns and doing typing contests in their MK HQ since that lot are useless at doing anything related to cars.

That's for an option to turn the little cubbyhole in front of the gearstick into an aerial amplifier. I enquired about it and was told that it wasn't worth it as you get voice controlled Bluetooth as standard. Since getting the Octy, reception even in rural Lincolnshire has been excellent when the phone is in the free holder that fits in the cup holders.

Ah... thanks for that. Sounds expensive for what it does!

Bluetooth is standard across the whole Octy 3 range from S spec upwards.

As is DAB and very impressive it sounds too. There's some good equipment at the differing levels. For me it appears some people are quick to complain about a few £££ price rise without considering that there's actually ££££ added value to the new car, model for model.

Lets not forget the new Octavia is a bigger car than the old one too, which makes it even bigger than the Yeti.

I do hope the Yeti mk2 will not grow like the other models have, I find its compact dimensions great for parking around London.

+1 - but not just in London!

I am wait for a Yeti with 1.8TSI and DSG too.

i must admit the new skoda designs actually look very nice and even looks like an audi, not just saying that it really does, but the price is rising a bit too high and skoda will realize that it will have to come down as they are not to be shifting out the showrooms very fast at current pricing, but i still prefer the old badges

our local dealers are selling lots of the new Octavia already, it's the Rapid they are really struggling to shift. Which is cheaper? That to me says people are still happy to buy a quality product and pay what it costs, especially as still a chunk less than VW and Audi are asking for their equivalent. :)

If I wanted to have something that "looks like an Audi" I'd get an Audi. What did you buy your car to resemble?

I think it is more to do with the Rapid being pig ugly sorry... AND in a country where small sedans don't sell this thing (even though it is a hatchback) tries very hard to look exactly like a sedan. So it is not the pricing that makes this car hard to shift. It's the looks and the dire interior. Especially compared to the very handsome Octavia which inside and out says quality.

Like the looks of the Octy III 1.6TDI 4x4 running costs; if I read it right £30 road tax and about 10mpg more than my 110 can manage :wonder: :)

Yes, quite an achievement getting a 4x4 car of that size in under the 120kg co2 band! A nice option if you dont run loaded up all the time. :)

Interesting:

- no 2.0Tdi DSG 4x4 - presumably so as not to embarrass other VAG models - a 170Tdi DSG 4x4 would be v capable!

- the base Tsi and TDi engines are presumably not bound for UK / RHD (unless these low power versions are for markets like India?)

- if low(ish)-power autos are more for the OAP/motability city market, which probably isnt a market for the Octavia3, the 1.4DSG would presumably be preferable to 1.2DSG? (Isnt a Yeti 1.4 DSG now available in some markets?)

- 1.8Tsi 4x4 DSG nice for the low mileage private owner though - logical replacement for the old Jag X-type estate user (or Volvo estate driver downsizing a little?)

You seem to get all options we want in the UK......

A TapaTalk enabled phone was used to write this...

Having now driven a 2wd Octy III I'd stay with the Yeti; unless there's a big improvement in the ride by having the 4x4 system in place.

  • 1 month later...

Decided to try spec a Octy III 4x4 TDI 105 as close as possible to our Yeti's spec;

£23,965

added, xenon lights, corner fog, cruise, heated front seats, heated washer nozzles (had to), heated windscreen, light assist, park assist (closest I could get to park sensors front), spare wheel and the RRP.

This puts it a little more expensive than my Yeti would be new RRP today, albeit the trim has been withdrawn, oh and the Octy III is to big for the front drive :giggle:

I can't find the 4x4 on the car builder... do they or will they do the 4x4 on the saloon/hatch Octavia?

Look under the estate SE configurator and you will find it there.

Thanks, found it.

Only an estate 4x4 then!

Yes sadly so :(

The Mk I 4x4 hatch was a poor seller, so they didn't bother after that. My 52 plate example was I believe about a year old before it was eventually registered as a demo and checking on the dvla road tax site suggests she's still on the road somewhere; a great car and one of the few I really regret parting with.

TP

Really like the look of the new one although an estate is not for me, figured my next car would be polo/ fabia size but if they were to offer a 4x4 saloon version I would be seriously tempted.

Be really great if the next generation Fabia III had a proper 4x4 Scout option; come on Skoda if Fiat can do it with the Panda

Oh the only obstetrical then would be getting SUK to bring it here; why do we need 4x4 to drive round the centre of the universe that is Milton Keynes :giggle:
