Help ! my LCD display has disappeared after wiping display

Recommended Posts

I cleaned my 59 reg fabia II on the weekend and when wiping the dashboard display with a cloth, the lcd instrument cluster vanished. -- has anyone had this happen to their Fabia and has anyone any suggestions on what I may do ?? I phoned the dealership (my car is out of warranty) and the extremely unhelpful girl on the switchboard told me to book it in and they will kindly do a diagnostic for me at a cost of £90 + vat and then let me know what they think it is.

Any suggestions anyone ?? ( checked the fuse that the handbook says is the one responsible for the cluster (No. 5 fuse) and that was ok)

I used to have this on my roomster,

wipe it or press slightly in one area to clean the dashboard display and the lcd would go blank, not even the little lines around the fuel bars or bars between the trip meter etc

turn ignition off / on used to solve it

tried turning the ignition on / off -- didn't solve it. -- disconnected battery also. -- that didn't solve it either. -- Does anyone else have/had this problem and any possible solution ?? -- From what I have found on the net, it looks like a dashboard replacement (ouch) --- Anyone ???? :wall:

It was just a light wipe !!! lol !! From what I have been reading on google, it apparently is a common occurance !!! Beware fabia 2 drivers when wiping dashboard cluster !! -- I have been quoted around the £400 mark as it appears that the whole instument cluster will have to be replaced !! OUCH !!-- anyone got any ideas before I try to dig up the cash ??

Have you hit the illumination switch while wiping the dash? It could be you've just turned the backlighting right down....

if it is only a matter of weeks out of warranty could be worth ringing skoda uk as this sort of thing should not be expected to go just out of warranty, see if they will help with the cost as a good will gesture

if not contact someone like unit 18 and see what their costs would be or if they think it may be repairable

unfortunately, it is nearly a year out of warranty. I was hoping someone may know of any specialists in the North East area who may know how to repair it other than going to the main dealers especially as my MOT is due in Sept.

Everyone who seems to do these kind of repairs seem to be based in or around London !!

Would you be able to find any fault codes or possible re-activation through VCDS? Might not be accessible but possible if there are any VCDS owners in the North East willing to try?

I was just going to say that! I think you reconnected too soon. Give it 15 or so mins. Perhaps take off battery and recharge overnight if possible as many stop start journeys don't fully recharge battery and they get week early on in their life.

I did the same thing... TWICE! It won't come back on by its self if you leave it bit if you pull the battery, Hey-presto!

Joined the forum just to say thanks for the tip.

My multifunction display (Fabia2 59 plate) went dead whilst I was wiping the dust from it with a microfibre cloth. Very light pressure - just wanted to wipe dust off.

Fault persisted for 3 days waiting for an opportunity to disconnect battery for up to 3hrs.

Did it today - only disconn'd for 15 mins. Display now working again perfectly.

Cheers!
