If you could get one thing redesigned on the Felicia what would it be?

Featured Replies

I've just fitted a new alternator to my diesel truck, what a pain in the horse that was! Rad out, PAS resevoir etc, etc. I honestly think the alternator change I did on my old Fiat Uno was easier (and I remember what a legendary PITA that was! (Can't remember why tho?)

If I could have got a piece re-designed on the Felicia it would be the access to the alternator.

Or maybe the annoying rubber things which go between the PAS resevoir and the bonnet shut bulkhead, Fiddly for very little reason, why can't they have something which holds them in place when offering up the resevoir?!

Not a design choice per se, but it would've been nice to have got rid of the AEE 1.6, and put in that lovely sounding Skoda-designed 1.6 as an engine choice in lieu, along with a 1.9TD, or similar TD/TDI with a little bit more poke.

Then again, I suppose we have to keep in mind the market the car was aimed at.

I also hate, hate, hate the way that the pre-facelift bumper is screwed on, with all the screws in difficult to reach, hand-slashing places.

Got to agree about the alternator though, although it wasn't bad considering the money I'd have saved over taking it to a garage. And the PAS reservoir - I think I left mine slightly loose because those silly rubber grommet thingys disappeared.

That blank in the dashboard where the trip computer would sit. Why is it even there when UK spec cars never even had them? They went through the trouble to swap the dash layout from LHD to RHD, but overlooked that little detail.

The headlight levellers are utter rubbish and in all 3 Felicias I've owned, they've never worked.

The furry carpet is terrible for trapping little bits of crap like fluff or dog hairs.

Removing the strut brace to get to the battery is a little bit annoying.

I could think of a few other niggles, but the positives outweigh the negatives by a good margin.

I sometimes which my 95 Felicia had a boot release by the drivers seat like later models but then I suppose its only sometime else to break. Simple ftw.

A split rear seat would be useful.

On that point, I took off my Dad's............. Rover 75 bumper today to fit a pair of new headlight units, and what an easy delight it was to do. Undo some easy-to-reach screws, and then slide the bugger nicely off.

I had such a blithering headache getting the Felly bumper off to fit a new horn, I genuinely wish I hadn't have bothered, it took me the whole bloody day - the horn took less time to wire in than taking the bumper off! The indicators slightly seized onto the headlights, which meant I broke the lens off both sides and had to glue them back on a few days later. Honestly, what a pig. The bumper still isn't properly attached because I believe I lost a few screws in the removal process. It also needs a new front grille, but they're £90-odd from the dealer (I Lol'd when he told me), plus whatever it costs to paint 'em.

The worst designed bit of the whole car has to be the pedal box and brake servo linkage, it's an almighty ball ache getting it in or out, it makes the alternator on The diesels seem like small fry In comparison..

The other bit which irritates me is the bolts that hold the rear axle beam mountings to the body are really hard to get to.

I would love to boil in hot oil that wise guy that put plastic door handles inside. I hate plastic on cars and mobiles.

I subscribe too to front bumper pita removal and to welded on body bolts that snap like crazy.

Make it acid instead of hot oil. Window lifter handle button has snapped :wall:

Our one in the Fabia is a right royal PITA, as when on your own it can take 2 or 3 attempts before it completely releases

My 1997 Felicia has one from factory and it works flawlessly after 15+ years. It's just a matter of cable lubrication and correct adjustment.

Without doubt the hydraulic headlamp tilting mechanism. Two have died on me in 4 years. In Czechia, a saying goes that its lifespan goes MOT to MOT.

Could well be the next job then! ;)

True, but you (Czechs) found a better solution by fitting an electrical adjustment. I believe there still is a topic in here explaining how to do that.

Yeh you can retro fit the electronic type from a fabia, I've never seen a working hydro headlight leveller come to think of it..

oh must add, my comments on the pedal box is specifically on the right hand drive models in the uk, hideous contraptions they are with the metal bar that runs along the bulkhead with the clevis for the brak servo. It's enough to try you patience to breaking point getting it back in and working right.
