I love my Superb Elegance

I'm feeling the love man :-)

Yes, they are good cars (if you understand their weaknesses and pro-actively address them before they grab your wallet and start ripping big holes in it!). What I like about mine most is the genuine understatement of its presence. If you drive an Audi or a BMW, there is always an air of arrogance surrounding you and it shows in the road rage and manners of people (drivers) around you. In a Skoda, it's all so serene... except for that Audi driver behind you who is annoyed that he paid a lot more for the A6 than you paid for the Superb and didn't het much more for it (in fact he had to pay for all the extras that you got included for FREE in the Superb Elegance!)... :-)

55 Elegance here too, and still loving every moment of it

Mine's just a youngster at a mere 57,000 miles.

2006 Comfort V6 TDI manual 6-speed, 117k miles, and yes, will keep it until it is no longer DIY serviceable. No major pains other than CV boots ( I think 4 so far).

Last winter the local area was drowned in road salt, took me 2 cans of zinc spray to restore the rust free underbody appearance recently, and quite a bit of zinc and varnish to make towbar box carrier mount grey again.

In my opinion, the Edition 100 was fantastic for looks, but the Comfort is the best long distance cruiser on account of velour seats, heated in my car, and comfortable in any weather. V6 diesel with manual gearbox is the way to go for high speed motorway cruising. What I am trying to say is that I thought about these things a little before buying the Superb, and so far the car has not disappointed me. The downside is that I have now a hard time finding a car to eventually replace the Superb, as nowadays within all VAG brands you have to choose either powerful engine or cloth upholstery, but not both.

I have the same thoughts in terms of eventual replacement vehicle. There is really nothing out there like-for-like. But at the moment an A6 3.0Q 6sp Manual is the favourite, or perhaps a 2.7 FWD for 20% better economy. But they are not cheap.

A6 3.0 quattro manual means pre-2011 car, I think I'd rather wait until Mk1 Superb is 15 years old, and then replace it with a new A6 313bhp quattro tiptronic, fully specced up, or perhaps the next Phaeton that will weigh less than 2.5tons :giggle: . Call it my retirement car ;)

Currently, the only manual V6 diesel offering in A6 range is 204bhp 3.0CR, leather upholstery only, no underbody protection, no full sized spare, either.

That A6 has £40k UK price tag when specced up to similar level as my Mk1 Superb that cost £20k 7 years ago. Same A6 with 50%+ more power (313bhp bi-turbo) and 4 wheel drive costs £50k. Neither price is sane and then there is an overstated image problem, so I am still hoping Skoda puts 2.0CR engine in the Rapid instead and saves me tons of money for 90% of comfort and speed, or that Octavia 3 gets a bigger fuel tank on facelift, or that Skoda makes a (faster) Mk3 diesel Superb before my Mk1 dies ( Mk3 Superb should be out around 2016).

Love these cars...

Own 2 Superb Edition 100's and a third 1 on the way...

and I love mine too... but after 7 years I've got just a little bored with it - I've never had a car longer than 5 years before, usually about 3 years before changing.

So, as I'm now 'between jobs' I've decided to sell it and have put a sale thread in the for sale forum. We don't really need the rear leg room any more and I'll put up with using the wife's Mini til I get sorted. So I'll certainly miss the leisurely smooth ride and the feeling of driving a quality car. And the cruising ability. And the heated seats and sat nav. And the big boot. Aw heel!!! Now I'm thinking about keeping it again...

3 100's!? What are do doing, stockpiling them?!! :)

Well no... I have 1, my brother has 1 and my wife drives 1....

They certainly are lovely. Haven't a clue what I'll get to replace mine with when it goes to the great Autobahn in the sky...

I must say I do like the new Octy. It is much more spacious in the rear than the outgoing model. Phaetons are incredible value for money used, but when you compare a 3.0 tdi spec to an A8, it's sheer mass costs a lot: in terms of speed, acceleration, fuel cons, and cruising range. That's steel vs aluminium body talking! We are off to the Continent on Saturday, I hope my 2.5 serves us well, kids sleeping in the back while I cruise overnight, and by the morning we should be somewhere near Vienna... I just love driving the Superb at night across Germany, the power, the comfort, bixenons (1st time with those new Osram CBIs) illuminating the way... Just awesome.

I drove a friends year old XJL Prem Lux 3.0 diesel back from London on Wednesday. If I was spending £30k, that's where I'd put my money. 275 bhp and 447 torx is enough despite the size of the car and the quality build and feel is fantastic.

However, I just can't persuade myself the spend that kind of money on any car. There's way too much value out there for a lot less. Early current model xj's will be down to £20k within 12-18 months. I think I might be tempted then.

Until then, I'm happy, even a little smug, driving my Edition 100 - it's gotta be the best value luxury car of its size out there.

Nearly 7 years and 119k on the clock - and still in love! - even after spending nearly £2k on a VP44 rebuild this winter...........

My mk 1 was a Jewell's Oxford demo with 10k on the clock and so had most of the bells and whistles (and a towbar)

The only possible like for like value for money replacement is a Phaeton, but I understand that any repairs make a Skoda stealer's charges look like pocket money....................

In the 80's/90s 2nd hand Audis could be bought for peanuts - I had 3 x 100s and a 2.5Tdi A6. I expect that the VAG effect will make Skoda prices go the same way as Audi

What did it cost you if you don't mind saying

Just under 6k. It is in great condition as well. Think it went down to the golf club and back once a week.

I even can be better. I bought my 2007 1.9tdi elegance with only 6000miles or 9700km on the clock, bought in may 2010.

And even 3 times serviced.... :-)

2007 Elegance 2.5 TDI triptonic 55000, best car I have had. Black with Sunset windows. Claybar plus canuba waxed a few months ago and looks like new.

Still enjoy the look on the face of other drivers when they see the Skoda badge and decide to tail end me.... foot down and leave them standing. Might be slow off the mark but middle to top range is well...superb!

So far new gaiters, the dreaded water ingress ( Skoda paid some of the bill ), decided to change cam belt and water pump at 46000. New mats this week.

Love every minute of driving it. My mate has a 3 year old BMW 3.0 5 series loves the Superb but cannot bring him self to buy one :0)
