same engine as the type R apart from in detuned state and missing the 6speed box. Oh and 2 extra doors. Drove one when they first released it whilst I was at Honda and they seemed ok

Following Type-R's footsteps, the Type-S is a 'family' version, using the CR-V's 2.0's engine, carrying 160bhp...it is only available in 5-door while the Type-R is 3 door.

Supposedly almost the same price as the Type-R, which is why it ain't doin' so well.

my mates sister has one, looks ok but i wouldn't have it cos it looks like a fake type R wannabe

as the type R gonna be rubbish if driven like a normal car, if you keep it under 4k like most people seem to then it will be cack

Regardless of the fact that it's not a Type-R, those figures are pretty good. It doesn't have the torque of a TDi (duh!), but it's 0-60 quoted figure is better than a standard Furby vRS anyway.

Another good Civic is the sedan VTI 150BHP model...

the reason it is quicker with less torque is because it revs higher, this is what i keep trying to say to tdi owners. they may have a trillion lbft but its for about 1/2 rpm, the civic has it power/torque for a much greater rev range which is gets it there quicker

v true - torque is very nice for in-gear accelerating.

In the Furby I'd say 2k - 4.5k = 2.5k usable at a push. Any lower and you'll kill your clutch eventually, any higher and it will probably not do much anyway.

Compare that to a petrol, probably 3.5k-6.5k minimum = 3k. That's already better. And some are usable from 3k up to 7k, which is nearly getting to double the usable range.

The only catch with the large range is that the fuel consumption is going to be significantly higher as you are revving pretty much at the double rpm as well.

It's also the reason why a petrol will usually outperform a diesel of similar spec from a standstill - speed-range in a particular gear is far higher in a petrol, generally.

I'm not one of those anti-diesel/anti-petrol types. Both have some plusses and minusses.

The Honda has a good engine in it, it can take the revving. As mentioned though, it won't be fast if you don't rev the engine, as the real pull starts pretty high up the rev range. It's probably a good car for those who drive it 'gentle style' during say the week, and when they want that extra performance, keep it planted and it will step up to the plate :D

just what i was trying to say, my 1.8T starts pulling from 2k, pulls really hard from 3k -3.5k and happily goes untill 6.5k - 7k

it just keeps going in the same gear, funny when a less powerfull car annoys and hassle's you nd you boot it at lower revs and just keep pulling away with having to lift :D

Diesel drivers anoy me. When pulling along side a high powerd tdi they almost always think they can beat you beacase they have a false sense of strong acceleration due to the high toque, it is only then that they realise I am still accelaratring while they are changing gears.

Hmm - you'll find the same is true the other way, in that they don't expect a diesel to be so quick... Not disagreeing with the 'when changing gear' bit by any means though, you're right there ;)

I think everyone by now has had a suprise attack or two by the PD tdi engined cars, I had problems getting past a new shape octavia 2ltr tdi fancy one as my next taxi, check out the mods you can for the octavia 2 at www.milotec.de it look's the buisness.

How dare they? Don't they know that a petrol turbo will be waaaaaay quicker than them? The sheer affrontary of it! :grumpy:

As Bengie said though, it's low down where it's really useable. Part of the reason a lot of people don't buy Type R's is because they're pretty poor below the magic 6k. I'd rather have 90% of my power/torque 90% of the time, than only have 50% in normal driving. That's why diesel sales are doing so well.

If the same amount of investment and research had been done into diesel development as petrol then I think the performance gap would be non existent by now, it's simply because it was ignored for so many years by manufacturers in their R&D budgets.

Personally, the revvy nature suits the way I drive. :cool: Only got a diesel due to doing 60k+ miles per year :(

So the Civic Sport is different from the Type S then? Only I've seen plenty of 3-door Civic Sports...

The Civic Sport is a regular Civic SE 1.6 VTEC with a similar bodykit to the Type-R, performance/spec wise there is no difference it's all exterior cosmetics according to the dealer.

I test drove a Civic Sport just under 2 weeks ago before I ordered my Fabia vRS and i have to say it's pretty gutless although you can feel the VTEC kick in between 60 and 70mph I forget what the RPM was although it was fairly high and to be honest it's not all that impressive unlike it's big brother the Type-R.
