Fabia VRs Galvanised?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if any of you guys knew if the body of the Mk1 Fabia VRs is galvanised at all?

I ask mainly due to some signs of rust coming through on the bottom of the rear arches on both sides of mine...which would suggest that it isn't haha

Also has anyone else had such problems, seems a bit strange considering mine is a late 2005 model (although we have had a harsh winter and I live in a seaside town)

Do you guys reckon Skoda would cover this under a paint/body warranty at all?

I suspect not. My 2004 VRS is going at same point :( I will try skoda and their anti corrosion warranty first.

My 2007 seat Ibiza fr has two rusty front wheel arches!

my 04 vrs is doing same front of rear arches and where it meets the bumper .... try taking it in to skoda under warranty ...

All VAG cars have been galvanised at factory since 1999.

I know VW has a 12 year anti corrosion warranty.. but not sure about Skoda..

It's ten years on our model. Took mine today, they took pics and sending a report to skoda, they recon things like wheel arches are caused by stones etc so probably not covered. If that's the case what's the point of it full stop?

Worse place for mine is at end of each sill, even though front an back of both sides are corrodong in same place they recon its probably not covered.

Mine wasn't covered :(

Also got loads of galvanised blisters.

it says your in sheffield so if you get chance go see mathew at d m keith in leeds .... great guy very helpful ( also a brisky member ... mk2 fab vrs) hes currently helping me try to sort mine

pretty sure Skoda warranty usually get out of wheel arch jobbies like previously stated cos they say its caused from stone chips, the main rust warranty jobs we do at the Skoda bodyshop is rusty tailgates, blisters appear mainly around numberplate, this is a manufacturing defect where the bare metal got contaminated in the factory i believe

Will pop mine into skoda. Noticed a few spots around the number plate.

i think the Skoda anti corrosion warranty is for cars up to 10 years old

Thanks guys, I'll give Skoda a try... If not ill have to get on top of it soon

As everyone else has suggested, try skoda main dealer regarding a warranty claim. I would recommend using 'waxoyl' to all as a preventative treatment for the underbody and mechanical parts exposed to the elements. I'm due to give mine a coat soon, its something I've done once or twice a year on all my previous cars. It helps drive out moisture and leaves a long lasting waxy film which protects against corrosion.

Yea, its a common fault.

Long as the wings have not been sprayed previously by non approved people take it down to SEAT and get them to assess it they have a 12 year anti perferation guarentee :)

I feel your pain

SERE Belfast told me this is due to stone chips as well, but it's not there is a bit of hard foam behind the rust on both sides, this has collected water and grit and has rusted the body from the inside out.

I have said it here before I will say it again, wash off any road salt as quickly as possible. It has just been winter and a lot of salt was put on the roads. Leaving any car unwashed with salt on it will increase the chances of rust. Also use something like Autoglym which has a rust inhibitor.
