What to log to see if I'm remapped

Featured Replies

Every few months I get the fabia on my brother in laws ramp and check it over as I do about 3000 miles a month. I'm going to plug in his snap on diagnostic machine as I want to find out for definite of its remapped or not.

So what do I need to check? Will boost pressure confirm it or do remapped cars run the same boost as standard. I'm not sure if it lists injector values although I'd of thought it would as when I had a Maf wiring fault it had loads of things I could log.

Will be decatting it and getting a remap asap if it's not mapped already but just want to know of each way or another

You could log boost as well as fuelling, both willl be higher on a remapped car.

Don't suppose you know the standard values do you?

I believe standard boost pressure is in the 1.3-1.35 region, mapped cars showing anything from 1.5-1.6 bar boost. Not sure on fuelling however, the boost will be a clear indication, aswell as how long it lasts in the rev range

You need vcds!

The free lite version will do

Boost with be displayed as 2500 etc = 1.5bar

Or 2200 = 1.2 bar and so on!

You need to have a look at requested values and then you'll know

So there's no way to tell with a snap on diagnostic machine then? Think that lists the requested values

Cheers I will test before and after I strip all the boost pipes as I'm getting oil come out of the top one since I had it apart to fix the map sensor wiring fault.

It also seems to pull all the way through the revs so this is why I think it is mapped but want to know for sure before I decat it

VCDS, Engine 01, Measuring Blocks 08, Group 11 - Has two values for requested and actual boost. If either are above about 1.3 bar, its remapped.

Will need to be a pretty sophisticated machine!

Mines only reads and resets fault codes

It's the top of the range one, the ethos is think it does not end

You can always try it :)

Right its a solus machine. Did a run in 3rd gear from 2000rpm to 4500rpm desired boost 2340 actual 2496 so is it running at 1.5 bar? Also limit injection a month 58.2mg/s injection amount 50.6mg/s. Can anyone tell if it is remapped then? I'm thinking it is :)

If you're unsure you could always attend a rolling road.

Sometimes mapping companies will add their name to the file that they have altered on the ECU i know ABT and some of the local tuners in N.Ireland do this.

Request boost is stock. Does it settle back down from 1.5bar?

Fueling at 2kish an Asz is 56mg, BLT is 57-58mg both dropping to 47mg at 4k rpm.

It holds at 1.5 bar for quite abit up the rev range tbh I'm just cleaning the egr and doing elephant mod and cleaning top boost hose so will relog it after. So is peaking at 1.5 bar normal? My rs turbo used to peak at a bar and drop to 0.8 but did it quite quick this seems to hold at 1.5 bar. It's also a asz

Shouldn't be hitting and keeping at 1.5bar, should follow requested.

Can you export the logs?

Has it got a tuning box fitted?

Definitely not tuning box fitted. Tried to log it after I built it all back up and it wouldn't connect so will recheck it at the weekend. Didn't pay much attention to what it held at just looked at what it boosted to

Requested boost is stock, so its not remapped. Now whether something else is causing the actual to be 0.15 bar above that figure is another matter. Could be sticky vanes, might be something with the actuator, might be the boost sensor not calibrated correctly / on the way out, so giving readings slightly higher than it should.

I would see if you can rig up an actual boost gauge to get a reading not linked to VCDS.

Yup standard boost but your turbo is over spinning! Thats if it holds 1.5bar

What was the dcycle map?

Must have been 94 (think it maxes at that)

You have an issue if so. Either jammed turbo veins / knackered turbo actuator / vacuum leak / dodgy n75 valve / MAP sensor knackered

It may Of peaked at 1.5bar and then dropped straight away I was just looking for the peak figure and was driving at the time. It had a map sensor not long back with the wiring repaired. Doesn't ring any different to when I bought it and have done 20k in it now. It pulls really well and does rev round to the red line without dropping off I think. Think I may just get it mapped and have done with it.

Just had a thought! I had to select the vehicle and model etc on the snap on machine so would that not list the desired boost as a standard model rather than asking the ecu for the desired boost for my car? Could explain why mine is running higher boost could it not?

Its all about the requested boost

Its definately not mapped! You need to log it and have a look! May pull harder as it may be over boosting giving a false sense of being remapped!

Also dont remap until you know the cars running fine! Mapping an already overboosting car is playing with fire

Do you not think it could of listed the desired boost for a standard car with other being a snap on scanner?

I will install a boost gauge and get a lead for vcds and find out the boost readings before I go ahead. Thanks for you help though

No definately not, running standard map

Thanks for your help I will look into the over boost
