Off to the dealer again-poorly Superb

Featured Replies

Airbag warning light came on and stayed on last night while driving on a smooth piece of road at constant speed with cruise control on

Dealer getting to know me by name as had to make several trips to them recently

Not what I expect from a two year old car with 42 k on the clock

maybe a loose wire somewhere, take it the cars never had a major accident?

Likely the plug in the wiring loom beneath the drivers seat, they're legendary for coming unplugged or failing, often due to junk that people try to store under the seat (if they don't have those drawer things).

Other common one is failure of the clock spring (the thingy that connects the steering wheel to the rest of the car, these can cause airbag lights too.

Dealer finally managed to find time to look at the car, some sort of coil has to be ordered, so they cant fit the part until Friday meaning I have had to drive with no confidence in the car ( will airbag work if in a crash, or worse, will it go off at random?) for two and a half weeks. Also horn isnt working- dont use it much but was cut up by a stupid **** in a BMW over weekend and unable to give my opinion of their driving using horn

Not happy

Could be worth a call to Skoda Assist. I was having loads of issues with my DPF on my Octavia Vrs and my local dealer couldn't look at the car for a while. I said I was unhappy to drive it with a known fault as I didn't want to do any damage to the car, plus it was drinking fuel. I was told that if I leave my car at the dealers they were obligedto give me a hire car. I got a nice Avensis to drive round in. Could be worth a question to them.

yeah, i wouldn't drive a car that had a faulty airbag system, i would phone the dealer ask if you can leave the car with them untill they can get the new part and fit it, in the mean time you should get a courtesy car

Finally fixed after three round trips to dealer, each nearly 40 mile trip.

Fixed under warranty but still inconvenient

Totally understand your frustration...but one reason why we came to Skoda may mollify. I work abroad a bit, and last October my wife's brake lights failed, on her Hyundai i10 while I was away. My learner daughter was reversing at the time which is how Mum noticed. She rang the garage who said they'd look at it late the next day.

Took it to the garage who confirmed the brake lights were not working (Doh, women can't work this out?) and that it needed a new switch which would have to ordered, under warranty for, delivery and then fitted the next day. The service manager then said (it had now gone dark) 'take care, driving home.' My wife was flabbergasted....asked in the absence of brake lights if they could provide a lift, a loan car, or ring for a taxi for her ten mile journey in rural New Forest (but for various other reasons she had no cash on her so needed the garage to assist payment). None was possible.

Up to you but 'you'll need to go carefully' the service manager said. ...at which point the he must have twigged he was telling my wife to do something both illegal but also on a cold, wet night, something very dangerous.

He said, offering again no, alternative, that he wasn't actually 'telling' her to drive the faulty car. But faced with walking ten miles on dark country lanes, even more dangerous, inevitably, sorry to say that is what happened. And back the next day with a known serious and illegal fault.

To be fair (to us) this followed a range of dubious service issues over five years but was the final straw...we ran and regularly replaced two Hyundai for a long time and lost confidence in the Everton garage. For example I brimmed the washer before a service but still always got charged for refilling it. Back to the i10, it made a rubbing noise when in full lock eg for parking in a tight spot. The garage diagnosed 'driver error' saying cars shouldn't ever be moved on full lock...before fixing the problem. ABS light came on regularly and diagnosed initially as 'overuse' (yup, on i10, powerful beastie) before a series of faulty and corroded sensors was identified. We asked for a definition of ABS overuse...none was forthcoming. On and on.

So, my Santa Fe was first for a change in January, hence why I am now on this forum as a delighted Combi L&K owner, and my wife will be next chopping the i10 for a Yeti (as the current plan) next year. We're much happier, they've lost custom and suffer the telling of this story.

In short, some garages have bad days, which is what it looks like above. We all do. Others are just bad garages...as we've experienced. And telling one from the other is imho the key here.
