What's this they've given me?

Featured Replies

Yeti in for 3rd variable miles service (54000 approximately) and they've given me a greenline Roomster as a courtesy car. Odd little thing. Surprised by how quiet the engine was around town, less noise than Betty, but then how much intrusive wind noise there was at speed (well, as much speed as the rather wheezy engine could manage). Painfully slow acceleration, and on every upward gearchange suddenly felt a real lack of power. Quite liked the way the engine cuts out and restarts with a press of the clutch to save fuel when stopped at traffic lights. Very twitchy to drive, felt thrown around every time the road camber changed, and I wouldn't feel safe pressing on at Yeti speeds. No idea if there is more than one level of trim with a greenline, but this one felt rather cheap and plasticky (especially the steering wheel) compared to the opulence of the Yeti Elegance. Last two services I've had an Octavia and a Fabia on loan - I'd have to say I preferred both of those to the Roomster. I really felt I was being stared at by just about every other driver and pedestrian with a kind of "what the **** is that look" while driving the thing this morning. Hey ho, I'll have Betty back this afternoon.

Quieter than your Yeti around town?! Blimey, mines quieter, certainly when revved than the Roomster. They are pretty slow and they do wallow in corners comparitively but I have a real soft spot for them. The only reason we didnt replace our second car with one a few years back is that the girlfriend just said 'no' due to its looks. :( From a practicality and cost of ownership viewpoint I think they are immense. Make mine a White Scout 1.6tdi please.

Yeah, but your Yeti is petrol engined, the diesel is noisier.

Bobdog I had had one too once and it was painted the most lurid of blues you can imagine. I felt sooooo conspicuous in that thing.

I like them, in a quirky but practical way.

It's basically the front end of a Fabia bolted to the back end of an Octavia for a more practical rear.

You had the Greenline version, which is the slowest. Also let down by the plastic steering wheel and controls.

The Scout would be my preference.

From the front and back they look good (IMO) but the side view is a bit peculiar.

Think I've got one this colour. :)

For a little over £10k new it's a lot of practical car. But I bought it three months old with a prang for under £3k.

That's my favourite colour for the Roomster. I hadn't looked at them closely until going to the dealers to look at the Yeti, having dismissed it due to the quirky looks. I'm now coming round more to the practicality side - you get a lot of car for your money. There's a retired couple just up the road from me that have his & hers Roomsters (silver & grey) and I'm changing my mind on the looks too. Still quirky but I like it. :sun:

I keep going outside to look at it. I'm sorry, but it looks as if the front and back ends were built in two different factories, and then assembled in a third by a blind workforce. Agreed there is a lot of space in the back, but ... no, it's just wrong.

I had one as a courtesy car, and my 2 year old loved it as she could see out the rear window. It's like the pope mobile.

Sheila says it looks like it was designed by 2 committees, but they had different instruction.

Mind you our son is looking at one to replace his C5.

I like them. The Scout particularly. But a fixed sunroof put paid to ever buying one. Just not in that horrid screaming blue colour.

That's how they are supposed to look! :) It's odd, but kinda funky.

I think we Skoda owners do like the funky look and are attracted to their shape and style right across the range. But I have noticed the new Octavia and Rapide do not look so frontally impressive with the new style grill as the older models looked. I personally like the smiley front end and the bug eyed fogs on the Yeti and I do hope they do not change it too much trying to follow the corporate image.

I think the Roomster does a lot of things the Yeti does, especially in the practicality and versatility stakes, for a lot less money.

The refinement depends on the engine ( petrol v diesel ) and the 3 cylinder diesel is least refined.

It IS a great, inexpensive family car - especially secondhand.

Looks are a matter of opinion but, for some buyers, price takes precedence!

Hey Briskoda folks - don't let's knock ANY Skoda product 'cos most are better than users of other manufacturers' cars have to put up with.

P.S. I like that Blue - see, it's a matter of opinion!

I like that blue, very nice. I'll probably get a Yeti in the next year or so(had 4 fabia's including 2 x vrs) but, my god, the colour choices are so boring. I'll probably end up with a red or white one as the best of a poor colour choice. There are no bright colours all dull and plain.

I agree... but the Yeti has Shark Blue which is bright and not shouty:

Each to their own, and I can see the attraction of every other Skoda product (with some reservations about the rear end of the saloon version of the Superb) ... I don't even object to the new grilles ... but I simply can't get my head round this one. But as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" (there's probably even someone on here who loves Offnote  ) . Anyway, it's gone now and Betty is home.

That looks great with the white roof

Yes Johann that is a nice blue.

In white it would look like the pope mobile :giggle:

Bless you my daughter ... now I'm off to find a choirboy

Bob..................

CORNER!!

roomster is great, had one for 5 years until I found using the back of Renault to stop is not good for the poor thing

best thing is the cavern when you unclip the rear seats and turn it into a van with windows, had one of the 1.9tdi 105ps and in 5 years cover 165k miles :)

I suppose if you're inside it you don't have to look at it.

I used to get all sorts of stick from my work colleagues about my roomy

called "spaz chariot", "pope mobile", fugley and many more not suitable for here

also asked if I was able to park in disabled bays without a blue badge, was I sure it was not a cut and shut, did a blind man design it, etc etc

used to tell them if they couldn't come up with something I hadn't heard shut up, then reel off the other old skoda joke, rear window is hand warmer when pushing it, what do you a skoda with a sun roof etc

but it was very reliable, quite economical, went camping with me in a muddy field only days after I got it, at only 1000 miles I gave it a 1500 mile round trip from kent to lake district, to skye, to john o groats then back down to kent
