3 turbo's in 15 months!

Featured Replies

Diluted oil after a botched injector recall finished off the first turbo.

The new turbo whistled off the forecourt so was swapped again.

The replacement one did too but not as bad. I knew it wasn't right.

It's just packed up today 15 months and 35,000 miles later. Flashing glowplug light and limp home mode.

Luckily it's still under Skoda's two year parts warranty.

Knowing my luck with this car they'll strip it down and discover it's not covered for whatever reason. That'll be another £1,200 then.

All this because the dealer messed up the injector change.

I don't mind, it's taking my mind off the turbo failures To carry on the theme of buying inappropriate cars I'm going to look at a Superb this weekend. A car to be used by me which 99% of the time c

No, its the estates ugly sister, the twindoor I'd prefer the estate but the choice is much more limited and prices are quite a bit higher. I thought the Octavia's boot was generous but the Superb t

Ouch. And not the sort of topic one would normally choose to mark one's 7000th post.

Was the oil feed pipe replaced with the turbo?

Sounds like there is another underlying issue there.

I'm convinced from a mechanics point of view that there is an underlying problem somewhere,I'm convinced the fuel in ur oil is messing up ur turbo(s),maybe ur not noticing rising oil but a slight seep could be not good for turbo lubrication etc.

is it the turbo is getting louder and then just ****ting itself this time too?

I love my pd Vrs but I'm fully convinced the cr is miles ahead on being more reliable or this could all just be down to when ur injectors were changed,iv exact same car/milage and had mine done 16 months ago and iv had no issues what so ever,iv 37k kms done on them now too.

I'm also on orininal turbo at 133k kms (82k miles) and its not noisy at all.

Reliable Skoda then lol.

Was the oil feed pipe replaced with the turbo?

It was listed on the invoice, but knowing DM Keith in York anything is possible.

Bad luck Silver - That's such a hassle and a new record.

Let us know how you get on with DMK.

Sorry to hear this and i hope you get it sorted out.

How noisy should a turbo be? I can hear mine whistling away under acceleration. I just guessed it was normal?

Can you have the replacement sorted by another dealer, or is the warranty on the work already done with the dealer themselves?

Hey Wardy, yeah I'm through with DM Keith. Enough chances, plenty of patience and persistence, all wasted.

I now use Pulman VW in Durham, not the cheapest but I get the feeling their techs take a little more pride in their work than most.

It's booked in for Tuesday.

Once its fixed it's gone.

A faint whistle is normal, don't worry.

My original turbo was silent, until DM Keith got their hands on it.

Once its fixed it's gone.

I've been there myself in the past. It's such a pain having to bail out of owning a car due to expensive reliability issues, which in your case were completely preventable and out of your control.

What will you replace it with?

Now that's the million dollar question!

I'm fussy but my list is large.

I'd like a Scout due to the higher driving position and pothole proof suspension but doing 30,000 miles/year mostly at 70-80mph it'll cost me. Same with the Yeti, the 2wd ones all seem to be 110bhp. To get the 140bhp you have to have 4x4 which I don't need.

There is no denying the value of the Octavia so perhaps another vRS but this time nearly new and CR. Problem is they are all poverty spec. I like xenon's and rear parking sensors as a minium.

Perhaps a CR170 Superb but a young low mileage one would really push my £15K budget.

The Passat CC's are quite well priced.

Outside of the VAG stable I had a sit in a new Honda Civic, 2.2 i-DTEC this morning. Nice car but I think it's a little small for me.

Nissan Qashqai, again for the raised ride height and chunky looks, but not sure I could go from a vRS to a 1.5 DCi!

The search continues...

I don't blame you for bailing out mate, I'm bailing too had enough of the terrible reliability, 7 yr warranty here i come lol.

Silver were you on variable or fixed?

Assuming an oil change when the last turbo was fitted, how many oil changes since?

  • Author

It had fresh oil with the new turbo and is on variable, but saying that I only managed 13,000 miles before being flagged for a service, and 90% of that is on the motorway.

Interesting. I'm 60% MWay with a similar commute to yours. Oil changes have been around 16k with the indicator still saying 2k to go - Splitting the difference a bit.

I'm now going to do more frequent interim oil changes.

I was told by one specialist that Skoda replacement turbos are re-manufactured ones.

True, it even says so on the invoice!

Half leather , panoramic electric roof heated seats all round keyless entry 2.0 litre 4x4 .£18000 1 year old .we love it and it pulls like a train and unlimited mileage 5 year warranty

I did have a quick look at these, together with the Kia Sportage.

Do you know what she's averaging in terms of MPG?

My problem is that I spend most of my time at 70-80mph which can make a taller flat fronted SUV a little thirsty

Silver just buy a 2 year old Vrs cr170. I drove a few lately. Very nice indeed.

I'm going down the same route soon.

Very reliable too.
