3 turbo's in 15 months!

Featured Replies

Great debate everyone, keep it up and silver will totally forget he ever owned a Skoda with a turbo problem.................

:D

SUV's aren't always about the 4x4 bit, they also have a lot of space and are great "family" cars.

I don't mind, it's taking my mind off the turbo failures To carry on the theme of buying inappropriate cars I'm going to look at a Superb this weekend. A car to be used by me which 99% of the time c

Winter tyres would not have helped with no ground clearence and having to dig the axels out ( 10 foot drift. And how is me having a 4 wheeled drive car going to help her. As I said we drive 2000 feet higher than you and your railway stations are in the bottom of thevalley too. I know most people have no need of them but if you take a day off you are easily replaced. A headteacher in a remote school cannot .

Sounds like if you have 10 foot drifts you should have bought he a Digger

Last Friday on the way to work - limp home mode. Stopped, turned off the engine. Set off again and went into limp home mode just before I got to work.

Took it to Skoda at dinner time (ran fine). Diagnostics pointed them to a dodgy turbo.

Drove home, went into limp home mode again. Parked it up on the drive and it stood all weekend.

Drove to work Monday morning (65 miles) - all OK.

Drove home - all OK.

All this week its been fine, no hint of limp-home mode, done about 450 miles since it first went into limp home mode.

Driving down to London on Tuesday, that should be a good test. I've checked my RAC membership is still valid!

I've put my private plate on retention so its going.

Sad to hear it mate, time to get rid then. :(

Cheers Grizzle, just washed, dried and hoovered it as it's getting valued tomorrow for a possible part-ex.

I get attached to my cars and it looked very nice in the late evening sun with it's race blue paint and fresh tyre black on :(

I'll miss the car but I won't miss being in the dealers courtesy Fabia every month!

It'll be interesting to hear what you think of the Superb. Is it an Estate?

I'd be tempted by one myself in future.

Fabia? I got a Yeti last time I was DMK'd

Quite impressed for a 1.2

And on the 4x4 (off)topic, Wifey does the school run in a Subaru. Great for the snow and floods we get here.

I thought the Octavia's boot was generous but the Superb takes it to another level so the hatch will be good enough for me.

Listening to Radio 2 tonight there was report of the most satisfied drivers with Jaguar being no.1 again for the second year running, followed by Lexus then Honda with Skoda in fourth. They made specific reference to the Yeti and Superb.

Going to see this tomorrow...

I don't use DM Keith anymore, funnily enough it was them that buggered up my vRS after they screwed up the injector change.

It can't be coincidence that weeks after they botched the injectors the car struggled to start in the morning, the turbo failed, the oil level rose and the DPF light appeared for the first time then weekly ever since. As a result I'll never go back.

One of my many courtesy cars from DM Keith was a 1.2 Yeti, I liked it, no good for me as I spend most of my time at 70-80mph...

Silver - If you don't buy a Superb I know an Indy in Leeds that may be able to sort out your turbo. They had mine refurbished rather than fitting a replacement. Pulls better than ever now. £ 500.

Nice.

I know a guy who was looking to buy a new Octavia or Superb estate recently. He viewed both and really liked the Superb. The Superb obviously had larger boot volume than the Octavia, but he had particular requirements with regard to load length with the seats up.

Surprisingly the Octavia estate has about 10mm more load length than the Superb estate with the seats up.....so he bought the Octavia.

Load length doesn't bother me. I think I'd get on well with a Superb!

I know exactly how you feel, mine goes tomorrow, i will genuinely miss it and going to the meets, and the race blue colour but i wont miss the constant hassle i have had with it.

I still love that pic you have of yours at winter time with it looking like a rally car lol loved that

Cheers mate, luckily the Skoda parts warranty is two years so it's covered by Skoda UK.

Strangely since the fault has to be present whilst at the dealer they claim they won't get approval from Skoda as it si now so they said bring it back in when it happens again. Helpful.

Hopefully it behaves itself until the new V5C arrives.

It's rare I leave it this long between washes but I'd had a busy few weekends. As soon as I noticed the salt I couldn't sleep until I knew it was cleaned off!

Luckily we'll still have the wifes Scout (which has been absolutely faultless) so I'll still have an excuse to lurk in the Octavia forum!

So at a guess you keep getting an overboost condition logged and they won't accept that as a goosed turbo? Idiots.

Take the Master Tech out for a spin and give it WOT up a hill in 4th or 5th, that should do the trick for reproducing the fault.

Interstingly I followed your tales of woe when researching my vRS purchase. I reassured myself I'd be OK as I was looking for a diesel. I was wrong :giggle:

I was gobsmacked when I saw a picture of your vRS follwed by a picture of what it replaced, that was a very good looking E60!

What are you replacing the vRS with?

The fault was logged when they read the diagnostics but the workshop manager said something about the car having to meet certain requirements during the diagnostics - which it wasn't. No idea what that meant so couldn't argue.

If I wasn't planning to move the car on I'd be pursuing this with Skoda UK but I'm all out of fight now, the vRS has beaten me!

For the first few days afer the diagnostics I was driving like Miss Daisy waiting for limp home mode everytime the (noisy) turbo spooled up but it never came.

Since then I've driven it hard, I've tried loading the turbo with hard acceleration in a high gear (DMF judder) and given it the beans overtaking a couple of caravans tonight on the way home.

It now seems to be playing ball. I did utter under my breath the other night when emptying the glovebox "bloody car, you are going!". It must have heard me :giggle:

ah yeh the E60... god i miss that car anyway, its a Kia!! Shock Horror i know nothing to shout about but it has 7yr warranty and is cheap as chips (on paper so far) to run, i want a car with warranty and lower running costs.. plus i plan on getting a motorbike in the next month or two :)

What a great "rally slag" picture though :) Cracking.

Our best friends have a 2008 (08) Kia Ceed.

No mechanical sympathy at all and it hasn't missed a beat.

It's five years old and they still have two years of worry free motoring to look forward to.

Certainly made me think when I was shelling out for repairs on mine!

Gorgeous beasts. :)

Ditto. It's a shame they are a bit out of my price range at the moment.

My parents just bought a new superb a few weeks ago, lovely car to drive but I'd miss the power, also they have a very ugly rear end :(

Silver do u think all ur problems are due to the injector change?

Ive been car obsessed all my life and something ive always found difficult to accept were Korean cars.

My great aunt had a Hyundai Lantra 1.6 GSi back in the early/mid 90's......oh my god what a sack of poo that thing was...to add insult to injury it was metallic purple too and an auto.....having had to be driven around in that car having grown up with Alfa Romeo after Alfa Romeo (a Dad who is also v passionate about cars but gave up on the italians in the end and now only buys german) cars with their own problems but were pretty cool; that Hyundai scarred me for life.

Very recently ended up with a Kia Ceed eco dynamics as a hire car whilst abroad and I honestly have very little bad to say about it; it was half decent looking, wasnt slow, wasnt noisy, handled Ok, was v well equipped.....it was damn plasticy and still felt a bit tinny but I didnt feel embarrassed by it at all.

......problem is it just had no soul at all and still felt like the sort of car thats bought by someone who buys a car for its primary purpose....to get around....not because they love motoring or are remotely passionate about cars or what they drive....is purely a means to an end (and I have to say a very good one).

As much as I now accept Hyundais and Kias as being half reasonable cars not in a million years would I part my own cash on one because I feel it would diminish my passion for cars...gradually my skin tone would turn grey and id eventually just get in the thing for the sake of having to go somewhere and nothing more; my car loving soul eventually sucked dry by a good korean vehicle.

i understand someone buying one as it represents alot of car for the cash and has a fabulous warranty but whilst they make dream TV's and mobile phones....do they make dream cars....no I dont think they do right now.

Grizzle,

Which Kia did you go for in the end?

Cheers
