3 turbo's in 15 months!

Hmm everybody seems to be going the Hyundai and Kia route. Is it the warranty that's more attractive than the cars themselves ?

No, its the estates ugly sister, the twindoor I'd prefer the estate but the choice is much more limited and prices are quite a bit higher. I thought the Octavia's boot was generous but the Superb t

Both, the warranty the biggest, had a Hyundai about 4 yrs ago had it 5 years then changed in 2009 for a BMW, best warranty ever on the Hyundai items changed that Skoda would never entertain.

I wouldn't say they are out of this world to drive or a car to shout about its just 'a car' they are cheap to run, reliable and something to not worry about thats what appeals to me, i'll get a summer car if my hunger for speed appears but for now its cheap motoring for me and 7 year warranty.

SMWBO recently changed her Polo for a Ceed. Much, much nicer interior, absolutely loaded with gadgets and the majority of its massive warranty remaining, for the same money as a much lower specced/quality Fabia would have been. Next time, I'm out too. Short warranties and poor levels of equipment are pushing me. However, 4x4 diesel estate car pretty much equals VAG.

It must be the warranty! I think people are forgetting trade in value and depreciation.

I think silver would be more happy in a Vrs :)

its not anyworse than a Skoda is trust me.

Show me a better specced and quality car for the money, they are nicer to drive than all the competition ,apart from a Touran "R" at £32 grand. We tested all the competition, Kuga , Juke Mokka Sorrento etc and they were either dull to drive, or low rent inside, only the Sorrento came close. Most of the cars in this class are 2x2 not 4x4 so we had to wait 6 months for our used one to come on the market and buy without seeing it! Both Kia and Hyundai`s latest models have less depreciation than the VAG stable otherwise I would not be driving around in a 3 year old R36 that cost new £34500 !

At 5 years old, it's better from what I'm hearing ;)

Very nice looking that Alan - spec and economy sounds good too.

I think I've got a few more Skodas left in me yet though :D

This is quite scary because me and the missus were thinking about the Hyundai ix35 only a couple of days ago.

They are spot on in terms of cost, and they're not exactly terrible to drive or look at either. Good efficient Korean engineering, it will go well with my Samsung S3 lol.

Although that would be her car - I'm keeping the vRS at all costs haha !!!

I'd like to add as well if you're having trouble with DM Keith in York, don't bother with Royce Roberts in Hull either. When I was looking to buy (yes buy one of their cars, not even address any problems!) 12 months ago their service was so appallingly bad I drove out of there as fast as my clapped out Astra could take me. Used Hayselden in Doncaster instead, much better.

Royce Roberts have been taken over by D M Keith now in any case.

Its the MRS car, she now works in Queensbury ( one of the highest places in Yorkshire ) good alternative to the R36 though

Urgh, the dealer rang earlier today, despite the first garage acknowledging the fault nothing showed up today.

This is despite it going into limp-home mode after the first dealer cleared the fault code on Friday.

They are going to take it for a spin tomorrow and try again. Strange though as its been fine all day Monday and this morning (almost 200 miles!).

Doesn't matter anyway, as long as it stays out of limp-home mode long enough for me to part-ex it.

Try the Hyundai ix35 . My wife has one auto lights and wipers .Cruise , sat nav parking sensors reversing camera . Half leather , panoramic electric roof heated seats all round keyless entry 2.0 litre 4x4 .£18000 1 year old .we love it and it pulls like a train and unlimited mileage 5 year warranty

I can't really under stand what use these kind of trucks are unless you like in deepest Scotland and need a 4X4. ( or tow a Caravan )

Most never see wet grass and clog up the parking bays at Asda. Sorry Mate, not for me. Lady over the road from me has a i35 in white. It's used for the school run and the nearest thing to "Off road " is 2 wheels on the pavement.

Everyone to there own

Yes but you live on the flat in Harrogate, I was stuck on the moor at Eldwick, took an hour and a half to dig out the axels and mine is 4x4 . Both home and Queensbury get the 1st snow and the local road was closed for 5 days .One nights snowfall last time out ---Sarah`s last car 2013-03-23102916.jpg and mine 2013-03-23102341.jpg

11,000 people last year alone must be wrong then.

Most people buy cars they don't *need*. They buy ones they like for whatever reason, no matter how little sense it may make to others.

Yep, if I could afford it I would love a Land Rover Discovery - But I'm not a farmer!

Could somebody please remind me what this thread is supposed to be about? TYIA.

To carry on the theme of buying inappropriate cars I'm going to look at a Superb this weekend. A car to be used by me which 99% of the time contains just me!

My point exactly ( not pointing fingers at you Alan )

I've recently sold my old Discovery & replaced it with a Citroen C1 (for the wife to use).

Most people don't "need" a 4x4 and will never use them for what they were intended - most of the affordable smaller "4x4" are actually only 2wd these days - the majority of the iX35, Ford Kuga's are only 2wd. It's the style that appeals for most people (although god only knows why - worst parts of several designs of vehicle), however that is the choice of the buyer.

I actually used my Discovery off road a lot when I had it, but my needs and requirements changed and we eventually came to the conclusion that we needed a small city car that was cheap to run for the wife to use for work - the C1 is perfect and a fraction of the cost of Land Rover to run (it's a lot cheaper than the Skoda for that matter).

I'll probably never use the vRS to it's full potential either - I'm certainly not planning on using it on a track with the kids in the back, dogs & shopping in the boot anyway! :giggle:

The current line up of Hyundai/Kia cars are economical, well equipped and reliable family transportation. They aren't the most inspiring of all cars out there to drive, but the majority of users are not interested in chassis dynamics (and compared to the likes of BMW, the VAG group aren't that good) - they want exactly what Hyundai/Kia are offering - Vauxhall/Ford/VW etc should be getting concerned.

By the way way Andy , my wife's school sportsday was cancelled today because of the snow :wonder:

and as I said the 4x4i x35 is miles better than any vag equivalent unless you are paying over 30 grand

Seems strange when you stated that you had to dig out your 4X4 (R36) because of the snow and then went out and aquired another 4X4

Perhaps winter tyres might have been better.

As I stated earlier, Each to there own

Winter tyres would not have helped with no ground clearence and having to dig the axels out ( 10 foot drift. And how is me having a 4 wheeled drive car going to help her. As I said we drive 2000 feet higher than you and your railway stations are in the bottom of thevalley too. I know most people have no need of them but if you take a day off you are easily replaced. A headteacher in a remote school cannot .
