As long as you use a reputable tuner there's many positives and very few negatives. I used Revo on my last vRS and was very impressed; many on here use Shark and speak very highly of their maps and in particularly their customer service.

You didn't say which vRS you have or its age; this info will help better advise. In general a remap will give your car more power and more torque making it much quicker, it will feel night and day compared to standard. You may getter better fuel consumption but since you're likely to want to exploit that extra power it may stay the same or be a bit worse. Over a period of time and mileage it will invariably prematurely wear some components more than if it was standard as they're being worked harder.

I had my last vRS tsi from new and had it remapped before it had done 150 miles on the second day I had it. I kept it for about 18 months and had no issues.

I Revo'd my old Mk4 Gti Golf and loved it - more power and much smoother. I'm sure I got better fuel economy also.

The only downside was insurance aggro as standard insurers don't like remaps so I couldn't use any major insurers or price comparison web sites which meant every year I had to do some phoning round to get the best renewal price.

If it wasn't for the insurance issue I'd get my VRs remapped without a second thought.
