Yeti 2.0 TDI 170ps 4x4 Engine Remap Question

Featured Replies

I'm looking at getting a remap from SuperChips for the increased response, power and hopefully improved economy. I've spoken to Privilege Insurance about this and its only going to add an extra £34 to my premium (although this its this low because I only have 4 months left).

Anyway, my question is, if I get this done and take it in for a service, will the change be overwritten by the techs who work on the vehicle.  The service page on Skoda's website includes this line in the service detail:

  • Vehicle & software enhancements from ŠKODA’s database

This suggests to me that its possible any change made by SuperChips could be overwritten.  To get round this I could get the BlueFin device, but its another £150 to get this.  Are there any other considerations I've not thought of?

TIA,

Colin

Colin, I also have a 170BHP Yeti and would suggest fitting an ECU Autoflash, this gives faster DSG gearchanging and allows extra torque into the gearbox. Improved acceleartion, without the higher insurance cost and warranty problems. Takes some 15 minutes drivng the car with the unit installed (plugs in the temporarily under the dashboard drivers side) in in all modes, normal, sport and clutchless, take the unit out.. It does not show on any Skoda software. Available from MotorMods, Cheltenham. Recommended

Gilliwig, I'm not sure about the DSGs being in anyway 'slow'.

DSG is the auto version isn't is?  I made a mistake there and went with a manual because I missed the 'fun' element of having a manual.  Unfortunately I've discovered that I dont miss the fun element anymore and much prefer automatics... Might swop it in a few years for the DSG version.

You can ask the Dealer to have the Workshop not do a VAS Diagnostic and any ECU Updates.

or have your vehicle Serviced not at a Skoda Dealership but at an Independent.

There is no real reason to use a Main Dealer for your Servicing, use a Good Independent that specialises on VWG Vehicles,

the Remap is likely to Invalidates your Manufacturers Warranty or Any Extended Warranty on the engine anyway.

Or Skoda / VW will trying saying it has.

(Non Factory Approved Software / Engine Management.)

Hi,

If you decide to re-map your vehicle please feel free to give us a try for insurance when it's up for renewal if you like.

Regards,

Dan.

There are some great mapping options out there for the 170, but I personally would not recommend Superchips.

I did their Bluefin upgrade on my old S-max 2.5 Turbo - was fine for about 12 months or so, then gradually the car started misbehaving, resulting in stuttering and flatspots and increased fuel consumption.

I contacted Superchips - they told me to replace the boost control solenoids - did this no change - £120 of my money gone.

Then they suggested changing the oil breather - £450 later and no change.

Then I had the map removed - all problems went away instantly - MPG restored, flatspots & stuttering gone.

I had an engineers report done (another £40) which pointed the blame firmly at the Bluefin map - I presented this to superchips, as they guarantee their maps "for life" and they just disputed it and refused to help further blaming some "unknown" issue on my car.

So I would suggest looking elsewhere for any performance upgrade.

Ditto! He tried to persuade me to go for the DSG upgrade but I cannot see the point. How can an "instantaneous" gear change be made any quicker???

It must be an urban myth designed to profit from those who haven't actually experienced a DSG trans.
